The feeling that you are describing usually happens when the truck is in four wheel drive (crabbing). You do get a little feed back in the steering wheel (it'll jerk a little from side to side), and I'm sure if the four wheel drive was engaged you would here a little grinding as all of the gears meshed and fought to turn that tight of a radius.
I'm sure you would know if the truck was in four wheel drive, but that's my two cents.
