    Tire Question

    Hi,

I was looking at the Miata.net tire calculator and trying find which size of tire would be a perfect match/upgrade for 16" to 18" without messing with speedo accuracy.

    What I found was:
To get a 0% difference between the 245/70/16 and the 18", you would have to use a 325/45/18... Is this even physically possible on a VX (stock height)?

    Thanks!

Or you could go with a 265/55/18...

    ...or 285/50/18...

    ...or 295/50/18...

Those percentage differences are WELL within the average speedometer's accuracy anyway! I'll bet the VX speedo is off by up to 4% or 5% when it rolls off the racks, brand-new. Changing tires that suposedly change the accuracy by .1% might actually make it MORE accurate, for all you know.

Regardless, when I went from stock to my 275/70/16s, my speedo apparently became 5.6% too 'slow'...so when my speedo says 60, I'm really going 63.4.

Not fast enough to get noticed by Smokey, I hope!

i have 265/60r18 on mine.. there was 1/16th of an inch clearance on stock setting when u turn the wheel fron tht front bumper.. if u go anything wider then 265 on ur stock 18 inch wheel it will buble up and ride like crap.

    Great input!

    Thanks!

I'm considering the Yoko AVS and BFG AT KO...

Those who have either, please tell me how the hwy noise level is.
I have Good Year Mudders now... so anything is an improvement in noise/gas mileage...

    Thanks!
