    This section in the "...Never bolt on "real power" systems on to an engine that is already tired" part cracked me up

    "It's kind of like strapping jogging shoes on your grandfather, he won't run that much faster, and you will give him a stroke!"

    Just running some of the numbers

    Hmmm...

    Using the formula given, I figured the torque produced by the VehiCROSS 3.5L V6 at 5400 rpm (peak hp), assuming the factory claims that it makes 215 hp @ 5400 rpm...

    rpm x torque/5252 = hp
    5400 x ? /5252 = 215
    torque = 209 ft-lbs @ 5400 rpm

    Actually, the horsepower number for the VX at 5400 rpm comes out to 214.8 if anyone really cares.

    The VX must have a very flat power curve, considering the numbers for the torque output are 230 ft-lbs @ 3000 rpm and 209 ft-lbs @ 5400 rpm. Very little change up through the higher rpm range. This looks impressive and seems to indicate great pulling power throughout the powerband.

    Interestingly, using the same formula in relation to the VX's published 230 ft-lbs of torque @ 3000 rpm, I found that at peak torque the VX is making only 131.3 hp. Above 3000 rpm, the hp figure continues to rise, peaking at 215 @ 5400 rpm, but beyond 3000 rpm the torque output actually drops from 230 ft-lbs to 209 ft-lbs @ 5400 rpm.

    the HP and torque numbers are the same - i.e.: cross at 5252.

    substantiating the common term relative to speed, "Torque will get you there, HP will keep you there".
