The shop tells me I need "both front axles."
Simple question....is Merlin the best person to call? Thanks.

People seem to go to him for just about everything else, so if nothing else, he may at least have further info.
Out of curiousity, why is your shop saying you need new front axles?
I lifted the VX about as high as I could to fit the 265/70/17 Bridgestones (trimmed cladding, and it still rubs). Over the course of 40,000 miles this year, the increased angles stressed the axles, ripped all CV boots and the dirt and crud getting inside finished them off....I knew it was coming, just not so soon.
Bim
Just keep a close watch on your cv boots, get real familiar with a "how to" article, & order a set of Meca-Tech boots from Indy to have on hand for WHEN they go, you'll be fine.
Bimmr, that sucks, sorry to hear about that. I'm sure you'll still be ready for Moab ?
Anybody got Merlin's phone number?....I can never find it on this site (someone post in in the "links" section, unless I'm just missing it).
Gotta get on the axle search today, but unless I can't find them, I'll be ready for Moab, and either way, nothing will stop the BBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JHarris: Keep in mind, because I have wheels with a small inner bore hole, I had to use 2 1/4 inch spacers to clear the hub....since the tires sit out further, there is a much bigger problem with rubbing when turning the wheel....that means cranking it to ride a bit higher and more trimming than usual....pain in the arse, but I like the aggressive stance. I'll see if I can snap a pic and post it shortly......
Bim
Bim - sorry to hear about the axle issues... hope she gets up and running like new - soon.
