    Full sized spare

    Hey all,

Just wondering. I am in the market for a full sized spare. I don't want to spend a lot of money on the rim, and I have found some used Isuzu rims online, but they are all 16x7, and my AR Chambers are 16x8.

So, my question, if I am just using this for a spare, do you think the difference in width will cause a major problem if I had to use it? Like with the TOD or if I needed to get on the highway and drive for a while to get the tire fixed/replaced?

    Thanks,

    Bart

Tire diameter is the most important aspect.

OK then, and most Isuzu rims are 16x7 or 16x7.5. So I guess I will need to get a steel wheel in 16x8. I might just buy another Chamber, as the local shop here quoted me one and it is only about $60 more than the steel wheel. But I just can't help but think I can get a 16x8 steel rims somewhere else for like $60. Anyone know a place on line where I could get a 16x8 steel rim with a 0 offset and 4.5 on the backside?

    Thanks - Bart

I'm not quite sure about it, but you might look here locally at Summit. I'm almost sure I saw some steel rims like the kind you're looking for up by the checkout counter in the back. They're on sale right now 'till the end of the month. Also, the black diamond plate muffler that PHO2GR4 got for $10 off for a total of $82. I think they had some 16s there, but not sure about the width.....

    Billy,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what you meant was:

The diameter of the tire is more important than rim width.

    I use a 285/75x16" for a spare wether I'm running my 33/12.50x20" or my 285/75x16".

They're all just slightly under 33" diameter, no matter what the width.

Granted, I may have to rotate the spare to the front if I get a flat...but a tire of different width & the same diameter will usually get you to the nearest tire place.

Try rock crawlers, crager, steel wheels and wagon wheels.

Hey! Thanks everyone for the input. Hopefully I will never need the spare, but in the event of a blow out I would like to have something that can get me out of the area I am wheeling in, and onto a regular road and to the nearest tire shop, so probably, worst case scenerio, would be like 200 miles or something, maybe more if I was in the boonies. So, I will check into my options. Moab is only about a month away!!!

    Thanks again,

    Bart

Did you ever find what you were looking for?

If so, did you go with a 5th tire, or a cheapie as well?
