What I would do is search for a used engine and install it myself...this info may not help you tho.

If you've had it less than 10 months you may want to look into recourse against the seller if it was misrepresented. Other than that Don's suggestion of finding a known good engine is the way to go, much less expensive as low mileage salvage engines have been available for as low as $1000. Just remember you can get the same engine from a Trooper, Rodeo or early Axiom.

    i would look around.......
7400?!?! that seems crazy high.....i mean CRAZY HIGH. i may be wrong, but i would think you could find a used engine for less than 1300. or look for a wreck with an engine and make an offer.
    just throwing it out there.........

stay away from the dealer, find a smaller repair shop and you could cut that price way down.

Ya, that dealer is trying to bend you over backwards. As the others said, shop around for an engine on your own and get a private shop to do it.

I doubt hunting down the seller will help much. In all honestly, a lot can go wrong with a used vehicle in 10 months and they will use that as their weapon of choice. Your situation is the suck and won't be cheap, but you can at least always go cheaper than that bloodsucking dealer.

Doing this engine swap (as long as you stick to the SAME engine) is a, first year mechanic, sort of job. Plenty of room, no negative angle, blind, fasteners I can think of. No need for Isuzu specific knowledge, if you can swap out a Chevy, you can swap out this one...he's not rebuilding the thing, after all, just dropping it in. Any "competent" shop won't hesitate...someone hesitates at all, take your biz elsewhere. The actual labor should run about 700+/- 2or three. A remanufactured block should go about 1800 or so. Wayne
