Bearing repack/ rotor replacement write up

I've done some searching, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Did someone, fairly recently, do a big write up on repacking their front bearing, or replacing their rotor? I'm planning on doing both in the very near future, and it would be nice to have something to refer to as I go.

I have that on my list of front end maintenance, as well as CV boots.

I'll be doing the work soon, and I'll take some pics and do another "tips" post when I do.

Hopefully I will get to it before you do!
Sold the VX 11-21-07. It was fun while I had it!
    Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, thank you Kenny for the great write up.

I was doing my rotors and brake pads and had to search for this post earlier tonight. I also had to run out at 9:30 to buy an impact driver to get that retaining ring out. What are those screws made of? Lead maybe?

My rear axle seal is also busted, so my VX will be up on blocks for a couple more days...but when I'm finished my set up will look a lot like Kenny's.

So would it be best for me to do a break job while I do my boots? Since i am down there.

If you need new discs or pads, it is an ok time to do it.
It's an excellent time to do the bearing repack or replacement since you'll likely have the hub off.

Doing your CVs is a front end job only, if you tackle your brakes and discs, you now have to take apart the rear wheels. It just adds time and man will you be sore after tackling all that at once.

You'd only be saving about a half hour tops on each front wheel if you do the brakes/discs at the same time. The only repetitious work to doing your brakes at a later time would be to take the tires, calipers and hub off. It'll go fairly quick since you'd have already done it doing the CVs.

    Cheers.

Here's Kenny's bearing repack instructions in pdf. I've also included a pdf of his reference to Dave Chang's bearing repack. Enjoy.
