    checking the trans fluid

I read the write up in the how to section, but did
see an answer to my question.
Which is, other then the trans feeling like its working fine
and has enough, is there a clear cut way of knowing its at
    the correct level ?
For example, do you want to fill it thru the fill hole till it wants
to seep out the same hole ? and then thats technically "full" ?
Thats sort of what Ive gathered so far, thanks.

check it while the engine is running, fire up the engine then remove the plug and if nothing comes out add fluid until it starts coming out and then your full.:grinr:

    Checking the ATF

    Hi Guys,
I am relatively new on here and only had my VX for a few weeks, but I just checked the transmission with the dip stick, and if I had to top it up, would do it through the dipstick tube.
My transmission dip stick comes up the left hand side rear of the motor as you are standing in front looking back. It is right back near the firewall.
The oil in there was definitely ATF, and was separate to the engine dip stick.

Guess it must be an Aussie modification.

    Regards

    PK

PK - that's either an AU mod or a difference between the 3.2 and 3.5L engines/trans. The US version has a GM trans - I'm not sure about the JDM version but I suspect it may be different.

A '97 will have the 3.2L DOHC and Aisin transmission which has the dipstick tube.

There are aftermarket dipstick tubes available for the 4L30E, you just have to find somewhere on the firewall or fab a bracket to mount it then you need to calibrate and cut the dipstick to the proper length. The only place I've seen these is at hot-rod and speed shops.
