12 combined highway and city no matter what. 33" tires and a 4.5" lift. Rims are 20" alloy and are HEAVY. Handles better than stock though aside from acceleration.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on me.
11 - 12 miles per gallon. 2 inch lift, 31 x12.5 x 15 tires/wheels, powervault muffler, green airfilter, I am heavy on the little pedal too.
Ask forgiveness, not permission.
13-14 lately.. was 16-18 over summer... green performance drop in filter.. mobil 1 everywhere and a roof basket w/ lights that adds some drag im sure.. also good to note my engine lives in the 3500-4500 rpm range hehe
11 to 14 miles per gallon.
Who would put up with this if the VX wasn't so great!!

One of the few, my numbers are higher than most...as little as 17 (combined) usually 19 or better On highway runs, at 65-80, I get around 21. (the first thousand or so, I got a dismal 13) It got swapped out all around on day one with Mobil 1....I even pulled the bearings (found them rusty!) and repacked them. K&N filters (oil and air) Lucas in the fuel (always) 93 Sunoco or 93 Shell always. Oil swaps between 2500 and 3000 with PCV (each time) OEM Bridgestones (that's about to change) and meticulous matainence of other fluids is about it. All I can figure is, Florida is very flat....and I got a good one....maybe the two year break in had something to do with it Forgot the Magnaflow muffler....that didn't change anything but the noise anyway

I get from 17 to 19, on 87 Octane(sp), got about 20 once, but don't know what I did right. I have about a 50 mile trip to work, up and down a lot of hills, so very little of what you would cal hiway miles. Everything is pretty stock, except a K&N air filter.
I will agree, who'd put up with such poor milage if it wasn't such a great thing to drive.
17 to 19 mpg, but 100 spm, (smiles per mile), that equals about 19000 smiles per gallon!!!!:bgwg:
this is interesting but great info..
mines been getting around 12.5 with a air intake kit
and green cone filter, and 17" wheels and 30" tall Michelins
Small 2" lift and normal city driving.
Today I did the first step and test and swapped mufflers.
Did a Magnaflow. 2" in and out 18" long.
Ill start another thread with pics and youtube link so you can
hear it etc.
My goal is to install a few mods every few tank fulls and see
how much better I can get my mileage.
Performance is secondary and I know it will be an automatic
improvement.
17.28 over the last four months (3013.6 miles/175.072 gal, but who's counting?) 265-60-18 Kumho's on stock wheels, 36 psi. PV1 catback. Everything else totally stock. No lift. 90+ mile daily commute - mostly highway, but with some long stop-and-go sessions. Just had my MAF serviced about 10K miles ago, and new plugs and timing belt installed a few thousand miles back. Mobil1 oil and filter since day1. Tranny and diffs are probably standard dino fluids. I never requested synth when I had them serviced.
I do NOT baby my VX when I drive, but I do keep it cleaned and cared for. I'm very satisfied with the mileage. I actually thought it was much lower until I started tracking it a few months back. I am also curious to see how the winter blend will affect mileage. I've also work from home a lot more, which reduces the highway miles and increases the city miles. The Christmas holidays resulted in a low of 15.8 due to the local shopping trips.
I would love to get 50mpg, but not at the cost of driving a tiny box. I need the style and performance that the VX exudes. The Jetta doesn't do it for me. Sorry. The Tesla Roadster would be cool.

combination city/highway/rural roads w/hills: summer got around 17.5mpg. currently (winter) got 16.2mpg. Experienced 22mpg on a highway trip to Vermont (a few years ago) with cruise and 23mpg on return trip with cruise.
Mobil 1 Synthetic everywhere.
See my profile for mods list.

Remember, the diameter of the tire will affect the number of rotations per mile. For example, if you go from the standard 245/70-16 to 265/70-16 there will be an approx. 3% reduction in the speedo reading and also the odometer reading. So in 300 miles (read by the odometer) you will actually be traveling 309+ miles.
I avg. 16-17 with K&N filter and magnaflow muffler. That's with California gas which has alcohol added. If I go up to Oregon and get a tankful, I'll get 20+ per gallon. Good gas and they pump it!
My driving is combination city/hiway with a 60 mile round trip commute daily. 113k total miles.
I started tracking mileage again once the supercharger went in - prior to the SC, I was getting 12-15 (Hotshot Intake, PV1 Muffler, 87 Octane gas, Tire pressure at 46 lbs). Now I'm running a CAI with Green filter, PV1 Muffler, Supercharger and 93 Octane gas, Tire pressure at 46 lbs).
7/18 12.6
8/5 SC Install
8/15 14.65
9/10 19.897 (roadtrip)
9/27 11.81
11/9 Oil/Filter/PCV change
11/24 18.49 (roadtrip going up)
11/24 17.668 (roadtrip coming back)
12/7 14.24
12/13 15.92
12/19 13.80
12/23 15.56 (roadtrip going up filling 1/2 tank)
12/26 15.44 (roadtrip coming back filling 1/2 tank)
12/27 17.28 (roadtrip next day fill-up)
1/2 16.0
What I've noticed is that during the summer months the mileage is crappy (summer fuel mix), then in the fall it gets really good until it's really cold, then it gets really good again in the spring until the summer fuel mix comes again. Also the mileage starts getting bad towards the end of every other oil change, when I change the PCV and it gets better again. Gassing up the tires give me about 1/2 MPG more, and I think the 93 Octane gives me another 1/2-1 MPG more but it's hard to say with the SC installed). The engine was running towards the hot end with a cone filter pulling engine compartment air - the cold air intake makes the engine run considerable cooler (barely goes above the halfway point, like it did before the SC). When the SC was drawing engine compartment air, the temp always ran just right of center and crept up to "hot" right when running hard or stuck in stop-and-go interestate traffic.

"Metaphors be with you"
after maket intake, 919's lift about 3.5 inches, 33"s tires, 17 inch rims, and i'm avereging on highway only 11.11111 MPG, it sucks my balls out, but now i dirve it like 2-3 days a week, and i enjoy it, and if i cared so much about milage i would of sold it by now, but i love to drive the vx and the vx love for it weighs more then it consumes me. the only problem i have is that i was doing 350-400 miles a tank full, and after my trip cross country now i'm doing 220-250 mpg a tank full. it sucks and to this day i'm still trying to find why and trying to fight some gay grimlins that some of you guys now of. But i still love it just bought a roof rack can't wait to get it and show pic's of it, from the finish inside dash project to the new out side look. the only thing that sucks is that i got the rack shipped to my parents house back in florida and i'm in cali so it's driving me nuts knowing i could of had it with me already.
