I got it online from autozone and it was around $188 and with shipping and tax..... cha-ching

when are you supposed to change the egr valve and how long does it take, all I remember about it is what egr stood for....

You normally only replace the ERG when needed - it's two metric hex-head bolts and a gasket - about a 10 minute job if you're proficient.
