    Hood Release Lever

Yesterday I was ready to install the new Xenonrider HIDs that we've been talking about however something weird happened. As I popped the hood open, I felt a "pop" and then there was no resistance on the hood release cable. Long long story short it took me and a friend more than an hour to take off the front bumper so that we could manually release the hood lock. It was difficult because you really needed the hood open to get the grill off to get the front bumper off but we managed and without breaking anything.

The cable from the pull lever to the firewall looks OK. The cable is not broken, it still works but it appears there is about 6" or so of slack now in the line and I'm not sure how that came to be? Right now I can open the hood but I have all the access cable on the inside of the truck laying on the floor.

    Any suggestions?

    Ty,

I'm no expert, but I can only think of a couple of things.

To get the easy one out of the way first; is your hood release lever installed correctly inside the VX? I removed my dash (more than once actually) and forgot to screw the hood release lever back down properly. If it's not in their right, then it doesn't have anything to leverage against and the cable will be slack.

The only other thing that I can think of would be that the cable just stripped out of the lever or the latch itself (basically just came loose). Check both ends of the cable to see if there is a crimped, or cleaner area, of cable where it might have been cinched into the lever or the latch before.

On another note, please keep us (me) up do date on your Xenon install as I am VERY interested in doing the same mod.

ok, so I took some pics

So what happened to me is the lower part of the metal just bent forward on me. Which let the whitish plastic piece just come out. Its a tight fit, so I bent it further forward to help me guide the plastic peice back in. After getting it back in I bent it back (and then a little bit further) into place. What you may be able to do is just unscrew the bracket, that might make it even easier to get back in.
