back seat

so I took my rear seat out this past weekend, and now im wondering about the functionality of it. What brain dead thought to put back seats in this thing, with the windows so far forward. But I'm wondering, they're heavy seats, do they serve a purpose off road as far as weight as in weight over the rear tires for traction? As the spare tire?

When you took the seat out, did you notice which way the spring went. I took the seat out and was on the way back to my tool room when I noticed the spring had different lenght legs on it. Which one goes where.

Thinking about getting those pins with the clips on the retainer when I reinstall, and a cover to protect things when the seat is out. Until I get a roof rack, I have to take the seat out in order to carry all the stuff I need for communications support. (Bummer) Looks like I'll be doing it a lot.
