    How to program an FOB

'98 - '02 Isuzu Rodeo and Trooper (with factory keyless entry)
    Instructions for programming
    1. Get in car and make sure all doors are
    unlocked.
    2. Open driver's door and leave open.
    3. Put key in ignition.
    4. Turn key to 'on position' (dash lights on, but do not start) and
back to 'off position' 3 times in 5 seconds or less. (you must turn the
    key very fast)
    5. Close and open driver's door 2 times in 5 seconds or
    less.
    6. Turn key to 'on position' and back to 'off position' 5 times
in 5 seconds or less. (turn key very fast)
    7. Close and open driver's
door the doors should lock and unlock twice after this happens push the
lock or unlock button on the remote, doors will lock and unlock. Push
the lock or unlock button a second time and doors will lock and unlock
    again. You are finished!
The above sequence erases all previous codes and adds the new code as #1. If you are adding a second remote, you should follow the same sequence with the exception of step 6; instead of turning the key to the 'on position' and back to the 'off position' 5 times in 5 seconds or less, do it 3 times in 5 seconds or less and then continue to step 7. ***Remember to turn the key to the on and off position very fast.

    Arrow

Those instructions vary significantly from what I've read & done in the past...check out post #6 in this thread: http://www.vehicross.info/forums/sho...keyless+remote

I just used the method described above by ETL with two seperate fobs on Ce Ce's VX, & it worked as described. (One of the FOBs was from a Trooper)

    OK or this?

there is a way to program it to your specific VX.. heres how...

seperate key from FOB (youll need key in ignition and to be able to press the button from under the dash)

turn the key to the "ON" position, go under dash on drivers side, the unit is a black box most of the way to the left under the dash (towards the drivers side door, on that box theres a tiny green button on the bottom of it, press the green button with a pen or something.. while you hold the green button down, press the lock/unlock button on your fob repeatedly until your vx responds (should be a chirp), release the green button and youre done, take the key out, step outside and enjoy being able to lock and unlock your doors from 5 ft away... if you want more range check this thread http://www.vehicross.info/modules.ph...ewarticle&id=8

I have not done either yet.. I just got a set of used ones for $40. My last one looks more like a pile of dead plastic.. "it fell out of my pocket and got run over."
If you say the second works then i will try it first " its a hell of a lot simpler".
    Thanks for the heads up!
i could of been slamming doors all day long..

""" everyone pay no heed to the junk i wrote form the dumb alarm/ dealer guy...."""
The correct way " at least on my 99 is as LDUB has listed!

    Put the key in.
    turn the key on.
    hold the green button.
You will hear a beep and you are done!

So simple but so very effective.. Thank you Ldub for saving my afternoon!

does it matter if your doors are open/closed or if the doors are locked/unlocked when using this method?

No, I just programmed mine lst week, with driver door open, doors unlocked, worked fine.

Hey, I think I found something new.....

I was looking thru a bunch of paperwork JAFO included in that stuff I bought last summer.

Found a TSB on the remote key fob.
I don't really see any "problem" that the TSB addressed, but rather clear instructions for programming several options. i.e. chirp on/off, automatic arming on/off, erasing codes and valet mode.

I never knew it had any options.

It also explains how my first 2 remotes got CLEARED last week.....I inadvertently did exactly what they list here....

I did quick search here for this TSB, but only found one concerning issues with a remote start device. I'm sure Mark's master list of TSBs has this.

In my point of view & little bit knowledge the main element fob could only end up being programed be a tec-2 scanning device. You will likely need to go for a local chevy dealership to obtain this performed. Please take all of the key fobs along when you go. There will probably be little expense to plan them.

Are you saying our FOB has to be programmed by a tec-2 scanning device, at a dealership?

no, it can easily be programmed by anybody, following the instructions posted in this thread and many others. No one has ever had a problem programming a new or used FOB.

He mentioned something in another thread about a security code so I think he must have an aftermarket security system. We don't have a keypad anywhere to enter a security code.
