Most PS3s aren't backwards compatable, you have to find a PS3 from the release date era- i.e the 20GB or 60GB (as seen in Ldubs handy chart). They removed it because the original price on PS3s was way too high for most consumers and they were looking for ways to sell the unit cheaper. I heard the PS1/PS2 games dont convert very well on the PS3. All PS3s will upconvert as a DVD player

I just bought the 120GB PS3 to replace my third broken Xbox. I luv it

The only problem I've had with backward compatibility on mine is trying to transfer data from PS1 memory cards, everything else works great...

On the funny side of the topic, this made me laugh...

Not on topic, but same thing, with a more "northdakotian" theme...

    Dub,

It's super easy to install the drives... There are tons of guides online, but essentially it's plug and play minus the bit the system has to do to install for the drivers and such.

Any 2.5" drive should work. I've got a 250GB in mine now and I was just planning on installing a 500GB myself.

    Hope that helps.

Also, if any of you haven't picked up Uncharted 2 it's quite possibly one of the best games I"ve ever played. The acting and voicework alone is better than anything I've seen in gaming. The gameplay and plot is great.

Also, also, Borderlands is friggin tight.

THANK YOU!... One of my co-workers told me that there are also instructions in the owners manual...

I was like..."you read the owners manual?"......

Oh I meant Uncharted 2, not "uncharted3" as I wrote previously. It really sets the standard for cinemativ single player gaming. First time I've seen where the acting was NOT tacked on at the last minute; usually in gaming it's some actor that reads his lines in a sound booth after the game's complete (some highly recognizable ones that phone it in). It's refreshing to see acting taken on at the same level as a mvie is--it's PART of the gamemaking process. It's like how pixar does its films, as opposed to jap animation where some dude reads his lines after animators with no acting experience do their work. It's really, really revolutionary. Uncharted2's written well too! And the gameplay, though the aiming's not as tight as some 3d person shooters, is really fun and polished. The whole game echoes attention to detail. astounding. Nitpicks stoundout for me simply because its soo close to movie level quality (ie. relatiely low res textures justaposed with high number of objects. it wouldnt even be noticble in other games to me, but its soo close to a movie i can't help but think of lesser games with more higher res textures. and jerky animation thats obviously mocapped is only a nitppick in this game for me because its soo close...)

Like hollywood, it seems theres an oscar season. SOme really, realy good games are out now. Batman Arkham Asylum I highly, highly reccomend too. The gameplay (fight mechanics, esp) is perfect. AND FORZA3!!!! again, I've slept less in the nights since its release on tuesday than i have played. It is beyond other racing sims for me (hyerbole, i know, but its true). GT5 has its work cut out for it. If you like cars at all, you owe yourself an xbox360 for the game alone.

I had 3 different PS3s, all junk, blu ray drives failed, Sony does nothing for you. My 1st gen 360 failed after a few years, xbox fixed it for free and gave me one year xbox live for free as well. Sony does not help you beyond the warranty, nor do they offer any compensation.

The PS3 overall is far from being as good as it should be. Considering it had over 1 year to make improvements over the XBOX360. The controller is junk, no removeable battery pack, and it has to be plugged in to charge...and IT DOES NOT TURN ITSELF OFF!!!! If you are using the PS3 Blu ray drive to watch a movie, gotta remember to turn off the controller, or buy their stupid DVD remote.
The OS on PS3 is a joke, it is the same non-user friendly POS that the PSP uses. Granted it is free, as compared to XBOX live, but I can watch netflix via my xbox, stream all the videos/music/photos that are on my computers with one click, very user friendly and intuitive, even my wife can do it

I traded my PS3 for another 360, and have never looked back since.

Funny, I completely disagree. IMO, the XBOX 360 is the poorest made console of all time. The only reason microsoft has an extended warranty is because they would have been sued by all the angry owners of broken xbox 360s. A 33% fail rate is horrible, the PS3 & Wii are way below that.

I was amazed how quiet the PS3 is compared to the xbox. The xbox has a big problem with cooling and causes the fans to run on high constantly. I owned three xboxs and they all broke including one that broke twice after it was fixed by microsoft. I eventually learned how microsoft fixes them and discovered how cheaply they were made.

With that said...as a gaming console its awesome and has great games. I need to get my last one fixed for the multiplayer games and the exclusives but I will stick with the PS3 mainly because it actually works when I want to play something. MY 2 cents

The only reason why I care about any of this is because I wasted alot money on consoles with no improvement in quality after microsoft acknowledged the problems.

Oh geez, I know I just got done gushing about Forza3. But I just got DIRT2 in the mail. Holy, molee..! My favorite new arcade racer. KNocked Burnout Paradise outta the running. It feels real...now mind you, I've never driven this fast on dirt in real life, but it seems more believable than any other rally game I've played (admittedly, I'm not a fan of the genre). And the presentation is prolly the greatest in any car game, imho. Really gets your adrenaline up. So far, Dirt2 has rallycross, rally, and baja racing. I dont know yet what else it has, but those 3 alone feel like separate games.

I sound like I'm getting paid to shill on the site, huh? sorry, again, it must be time of year; some really, really great AAA games this time of year before Christmas. This year seems like a record breaking one.

I just did my first Baja type race. Man, I would freaking die of awesomeness if they had a VX in this! Dave Mirra drove a Mitsu Racing lancer in my first baja race (yeah, shows you how much I know, I thought he rode BMXes...I've been living under a rock, because I didn't know there was American rallyracing; I hear XGames and I think BMX, skateboards, energy drinks and eXXXXxtreme 18 year olds...). I'm gonna buy one in game and pretend its a Vehicross... either that or an HX.

And BTW, I never heard of a Mitsubishi Racing Lancer (must be that rock I'm under again). But after seeing it in game I googled it and it looks to be an awesome lil truck. Reminds me of the VX a lot. ANyone hear of it? And, I wonder how the VX would fare on a same course?

Can't speak for anyone elses experience, & I feel no need to trash any of the other systems, but mine has been running strong on a daily basis since 12-06.
Just cleaned the lens for the first time ever last week...

Every once in a while I get out my nintendo and play Zelda on it and listen to my TEAC reel to reel tape player. I understand you can get some really good graphics on a super nintendo, but I can't see the advantage if you've only got a black and white TV. My TV is so old I'm still getting original episodes of "Leave it to Beaver" and "The Andy Griffin show". Been thinkin about trying to play "Call to Duty", but i don't know if they have it for my Nintendo.
So I said to myself, I said "Handee"
and this voice came back and said..
"He's not in, may we take a message?"
