I need help on tire size.

Does anyone know what's the largest tire I can run on a stock 16" wheel. Is it possible to go to a 265/75/16? Or do I need to stay with a 255/70/16 witch I believe is a 30" tall tire and the 75 is 31.4". I don't want to do any cutting or grinding to the cladding. I found a good deal on Goodyear wrangler TD 265/75/16 for $481.00 to my door. I found a nice set of 18" stock wheels with stock tires, but would need to change them for driving in the snow, so I thought it might make more sense to just replace the 16" tires. Thanks for any input, I'm new to this board and this is my first VX and very excited to do a few mods to it. 99VC

Most folks around here would tell you to make friends with the search function to answer questions that have been answered many times in the past...

But not me, I'm a helluvaniceguy...

265/75/16" will rub the front cladding, but nobody that's ever trimmed the offending chunk of plastic has EVER expressed any remorse over the operation.

What you end up taking off is this much:

Nobody but another VX owner would ever notice, I promise.
Not to mention, your VX will look SO much more meaner with some fleshed out skinz under it!...

Thank you Ldub, if you had the choice would you go with the 16" or 18". I know if you go with the 18" you can't run a 75, but you guys are the pros. here I just want so insight. 99VC

Depends on your primary usage...if you want to do some off-road excursions, I'd stick with 16's due to more rim protection form taller sidewalls. Also the ability to air em' down more for better traction.
If you're gonna be primarily street cruising, then the lower profile sidewall of an 18" rim will provide crisper handling, but rougher ride.
The problem is, you can't have it all in one tire/wheel combination...it's all trade off's & compromise.
Also, most 16's are le$$ expensive than most 18's.

I'm not sure if 265/75's would rub on the inside, I doubt it on stock rims...I've got 285/75/16" on my stock rims & I don't think they do...but I did have to do some "hammer mods" on the back side of the front fenderwells to get my 33's to clear. But they're mounted on a rim with more neg. offset.

    This may prove useful...

I just installed a set of 265/70R16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on the factory 16s and stock ride height.

They look good and there is 0 rubbing and no need for trimming of any kind. I can go full lock and there's no rubbing.

I love big tires but I ultimately decided to just go with something slightly larger than stock to help fill out the wheel wells without killing my mileage. These are kind of crappy pictures, it looks 1000x better in person, but you get the idea fitment wise.

you could probably go even bigger and still get away without any rubbing or trimming. judging from mine, 265/75R16s look like they would fit without any issue. These seem like odd-ball sizes though, I had to wait 3 weeks for my tires because they were a special order size
