    Front Bar Concept

I'm going to meet with a fabricator next week. I did a photoshop deal to show what I am thinking. Not sure how it would mount, ect, and I'm sure it would mess with the cooling, but I'd like to get your opinions. I posted it in the gallery

Looks like a pre runner bar - nice. There is one made for a Ford Ranger that I have held up that would work with just some bracketry, although it may not hold 4 lights.

    DUDE!!! I think your tie rods are broke!!! ;eekr; Your passenger wheel is turning right and your driver wheel is still going straight. I would have that looked at before fabbing the front bar;Dr;

Sorry could not resist..... The bar looks pretty cooooool.....not sure where you would mount too.....

    Good Luck

Tone, where might one find the bar you are speaking of?

Any place that sells front bars - it’s called a pre runner bar and there are several manufacturers. Check four wheel magazines as well. I had a buddy with a Ranger who let me hold it up for looks but I have not gotten around to fabbing brackets for one yet. Smaller diameter tube than the Safari bar, probably 1” or 1.5” at best - similar to the Geolander VX.

May be a bit off-topic, but speaking of tie rods, if you know anybody with a Dodge Avenger, tell them to take the ball joint notices deadly seriously. Notices said joints were improperly sealed and could allow dirt and grime in there, causing premature wear and possible separation. I got two recall notices and had it inspected both times. Both times I was told it was okay, no need for replacement. Driving down the road one day the ride got a little funky. Next thing ya know I'm doing about 45 mph when my right front wheel fell off. Damn lucky - no one near me when it happened, wheel stayed up under car sideways in wheel well (front end never bottomed out), car skidded in a straight line. Only thing still attached was the brake line, CV was ripped out and tie rod was shaped like the letter C. Didn't let the dealer touch it again - independent repair shop showed me the left one wasn't far behind either.

    Adam,

See those CNC's suspension arms on the Ranger? Works of art!

    Heraclid,

Holy crap! Glad you were OK. Can you say law suit?

Rangers aren't that bad actually... two friends have one each and I've ridden both. One basic 2wd (perfect for pre-runner conversion, cheap start up cost). One extra cab V6 4wd (nice suicide doors for the extra cab, very trick).

The 2wd, while completely stock (owner isn't a car freak at all), is surprisingly off-road worthy. The drawback: cheap interior... but hey, it's a truck and it's Ford. I've yet to see a Ford with good interior. Fords I've driven or checked out: Lincoln Mk8 (sorry excuse of a $30K+ luxo cruiser), Explorer, Explorer Sportrac (aweful interior), Mustang convertable, Mustang GT, Lightning, and Escort.

Is there a "macho" version for the VX? What happened to the prototype bar someone was working on (some downpayment was being collected)?

Will a bull bar work on the VX?

I'll agree with you there. My neighbors have a '93 Ranger v6 4x4. It is pretty decent off-road, but it is like riding in a metal bucket with cheap plastic and ripped seats coming apart. I guess if someone was to put the time and money into making it nice on the inside, it may be something to look at.

    Dead. RIP.

Anything will work. It all depends on how much money you've got and how many alterations to the stock front end you're willing to make in order to make X brand bull bar work. Nothing on the market is made specifically for the VX. The only thing that comes remotely close is the Westin Safari bar with Tone's brackets.

Do a search on the topic and you'll find more info than you care to read.
