    ABS brake problem

I have an 01 VX and have had two incidents of the ABS coming on surprising early while driving on normal roads. The second time I narrowly avoided a very serious accident by driving off the road. It feels like once the ABS kicks in, the braking effectiveness just goes away. The pedal feels normal and doesn't go to the floor, and the ABS light has never come on. I have had the brakes serviced. any suggestions? I would not mind disconnecting the ABS if it's not a big deal, or is there a way to reduce the ABS sensitivity? Or is it a matter of getting the ABS itself serviced?

    Thanks.

Well, what exactly happened? Are you feeling the brake pedal pulse back at you as you try to stop? Are you running stock brake pads or after market?

    Yes, more detail, please...

Does the truck pull one way or the other?
When did you have your brakes "serviced" and what exactly did they do?

I just had my brake fluid changed (along with new front pads, rotors, and brake lines) and it feels fantastic.

I feel the ABS pulse when it kicks in. Does not pull either way. Brakes feel normal, pedal feels firm and does not go to the floor. Each of the two noted incidents happened on either side of the recent brake service which included new pads and rotors. I did notice the brakes felt a bit stronger after the service, but just barely.

Just feels like ABS activates too easily, and once on, reduces braking effectiveness.

    Anything else?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Hmm... kind of strange. ABS is normally triggered when a wheel locks up. Either one of your wheels is locking up before the others (brake force could be way out of balance and locking up one wheel way before the others, but that's unlikely), or the ABS unit is not operating correctly, or a wheel speed sensor is not working properly and tricking the ABS into activating.

Do you see any unusual behavior in the ToD lights?

My money is going on a faulty front wheel speed sensor...
