    First I've heard of that one. Station letters starting with a "W" (east of the Mississippi) probably why. There's probably a Chickenmobile somewhere too, lol.

    Must be something else then, because my tires are just a little more narrow @ 265/60-18, and 60% of 265 is not THAT much different than 60% of 285.

    Bought the rims about a month ago. Used the same tires that came with the truck.

    rims: 18x9 Black Rhino Sidewinder, offset 20
    tires: 285/60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers
    lift: OME 913 springs in rear, cranked torsion bars in front w/ alignment

    From the Vx.info Knowledge Base:
    The 1999 VehiCROSS has 245/70R16 Bridgestone Duelers mounted on 16", 5 spoke aluminum alloy wheels.

    2000, 2001 VehiCROSS use 245/60R18 Bridgestone Duelers mounted on 18", 18x7JJ, 5 spoke chromed, aluminum alloy wheels.

    Offset = 38.0mm (1.50in)

    Stud pattern = 139.7mm (5.50in)

    Our OEM wheels are:
    16" or 18" x 7"
    Offset = 38
    Stud/Bolt pattern: 6 x 5.5"

    You need to KNOW these numbers when you select other rims.
    In general, any larger rim will require some cladding trimming, the amount of trimming is determined by the size of the rim AND the TIRE SIZE you select. Review the chart below, you'll get a better visual of the issue.

    OEM TIRE size:
    on 18": 245/60-18
    on 16": 245/70-16



    MY recent experience fitting new rims & tires when I went with 18x8" rims, +2 OFFSET. Rim is 1" wider than stock, so it causes rubber to rub much more significantly. (thread has all details)

    The place you're buying from should have experience and can tell you about sizing, once you tell them what OEM was - - BUT DON'T RELY ON THEM, THEY'RE OFTEN WRONG OR DON'T GIVE A FLIP.

    Just a few points….
    Direct fit?
    If they mean you just pop them on and everything fits…they're insane!

    OEM width is 7" +38 offset
    I went up to 8" wide (1" wider) with -2 offset
    Mine required pretty extensive cutty/trimming of cladding, and chopping off/beating back the rear of the front wheel well.
    With all this set up, my tires (265/60-18) stick out about 1/2" beyond the fender cladding.


    You're looking at a 9" rim (2 full inches wider than stock)
    AND an offset of +12

    That means your proposed RIM will fit further OUT by 10mm (about 1/2") than mine and 50mm over stock.
    AND 1/2" of wider rim OUTWARD than mine (1" extra outward over stock) You get this number by dividing the total width gain by 1/2 as half sticks outward, and half of it sticks INWARD.

    RESULT: You've got a LOT of trimming and a LOT of BFH work to accomodate all that WIDTH in the front.

    And 50 aspect tires that's really wide!!

    Think about the swing arc of the rim (and whatever tire you put on) in a turn. Since it's so much wider than stock, it's going to hit various parts of the wheel well turning both left and right.


    I know some owners have done it, and some have decided not to.

    I think Tom4Bren is one example of pretty high negative offset. You can see how his rims/tires stick out beyond fender.

    I'm sure the gang will chime in here with "how to" and other tips etc….

    Here's pics for comparison.

    First pic is my new set-up. 8" wide rims, +2 offset, 265/60-18 tires.

    Second pic is old set up (OEM rim) 7" wide rims, -38 offset, 285/60-18 tires (larger than OEM).

    See the wider stance with the new set up?
    Check out where the red shackle falls on each.
    But the old tires ARE LARGER width!
    That's because the OEM -38 offset, keeps the rubber tucked inside the well much more.

    Last pics show how my tires stick out past fender now.

    Thanks!!! I will keep looking. I'm wondering if a 17" rim will make a difference vs 18's. It seems that the -38 offset is a major factor. Most wheels are +0. I will contact you via PM as I narrow my search. My OEM wheels are peeling real bad!!!

    Thanks man! I screwed up the post when I attached the images, but I'm still learning how to use this thing.

    Man I gotta tell you, these tires are awesome. Great offroad, surprisingly quiet on the highway, but a little slick in the rain. Tires that big don't really lend to anyone driving like a jerk anyway either, so I guess its all good.

    Just to clarify, the OEM offset is +38

    All wheel / tires stores I have talked to are telling me that I can put 18 x 9 as long as the offset is lower than +38 (they told me that I can fit -12 to 12 offset without rubbing)! I'm already running Terra Grapplers 285-60-18 and the previous owner did some trimming at the front. I just want to swap the OEM 18 x 7 with 18 x 9's using the same tire combo.

    When I use the information here

    and using the same +38 offset, this is what I get:

    Clearance: Package 1 Package 2
    Suspension Assuming that this is OEM wheel/tire and there is no any problems with clearance on both sides >>> The same.
    Fenders The same.
    Wheelwells The same.

    Some it seems that there is no real difference???

    If I use a lower offset (+12), I get

    Clearance: Package 1 Package 2
    Suspension Assuming that this is OEM wheel/tire and there is no any problems with clearance on both sides >>> 100% clear (leaves even more room than OEM)
    Fenders Package will stick out 26 mm (1'') farther. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider narrower tires or higher offset.
    Wheelwells The same.

    Still confused???
