    Idle Issues

Still having issues with rough idle, sometimes dies after start up, and surging. P0171, P0171, and misfire cylinder 4 codes. Replaced throttle position sensor. I thought the plug on the left side of the throttle body was the map sensor but when I got home with the box it looked different. All the pics of the map sensor on the net look like what the gave me. Whats the plug on the left side of the throttle body and where is the map sensor located?

If replacing these doesn't fix it I guess the fuel pressure regulator is next. I cleaned the maf but I guess I could replace that too. Just wanna get it fixed so I can get rid of it. I'm gonna loose my butt on this thing. Just wish I could keep the seats. lol

    Thanks,

    Mrcln1

Cleaning the MAF may not help if it's just plain old fried. If you run an oiled filter (like a K&N) then the oil could have fouled it. Some people have had luck with cleaning when that happens, others have not.

    Good luck!

Please try cleaning the Idle Control Solenoid first... If it's the culprit, it's an EASY fix!

I run a regular paper filter. I tried spraying around the intake to see if the idle would speed up and it didn't. Wheres the map sensor located? I'll clean the idle control now.

    Thanks,

just cleaned my idle control solonoid.. need a T20 torx screwdriver to remove it.. the screws on mine were pretty stuck.. best way to do it was to stand on the passenger side of the vx and put your weight behind the screwdriver to take them out.. cleaning was easy though, make sure to get that O ring too

I sprayed the idle control with electrical cleaner yesterday when I thought it was the map sensor. lol I didn't try pushing it in or seeing if it moved when running. I'll do that tomorrow. So where is the map sensor located? Since I have one I might as well replace it.

    Thanks,

    Mrcln1

mine had the same thing for the last few months
    same exact code etc.
    Easy way to check.
Start the car and while idling and the hood up, spray
some carb cleaner where the lower intake bolts to the
block/heads etc, by the Injector one at a time. If you hear
the idle rise, then you have a vacuum leak, lean mixture.
    Problem, Lower intake manifold gasket.
Its a phenolic material from the factory, really good idea on the
surface, but when they break, you can drive a truck them them.

Heres a pic of the gaskets, first normal good used gasket

a good pic of the broken gasket

btw, the replacment gasket kit uses quality paper style
gaskets. The kit was only about $60 retail

    Labor, 2-3 hours

    broken gasket removed

and while it was apart, I took a pic of the intake off..
chances are youll see lot of oil running thru the upper
intake. Normal on these motors as we have found, but not
    the best thing.
Put back together, the motor runs amazingly better as
    expected.

Did you get aftermarket gaskets? I got mine from ISUZUPARTS.com and they are more like a rubberized material with sheetmetal framework. Far from paper-like.
