    Registration sticker shock

Last Friday I drove the VX to work since I needed to tow the trailer home. A Stafford County Officer was kind enough to hit me with the blue lights to inform me that my tags were expired (OOOPPSS).

Luckly he was more interested in the PUV than in writing a ticket so I just got a warning.

I went online to register it over the weekend. Sticker shock. Our registration jumped by 50% since last year. The good news is that you can register for 3 years now so I won't get caught again till 2011 but it did set me back a cool $215.

$186 for registration and ad valorem for my truck this year. It was almost $700 when the truck was new (ad valorem is basically road tax and it goes down as the value of the vehicle drops) - I'd say you can't complain.

Can't Y'all even let me vent for a few minutes before Ya shoot me down.

I guess $215 for 3 years on a vanity plate really ain't bad. The real shock tho was the 50% increase from last year.

    New york registration......the cheapest ?

    Hi guys !
I had my registration renewed on january, cost me $ 100.oo sharp for two years.
However when is time to renew i can expect a fee hike because NYS DMV just pass the new bill to collect more registration funds.
    Dakar was just the begining.

I have heard rumors that MD is trying to pass an SUV Reg change that would call for "SUVs" (not pickups/work trucks), to pay a flat $700 reg every 2 years. It is nicknamed the "MD SUV TAX". This would only cover SUVs "over" 4000lbs licensed in MD. Like I said.... I only heard that. Don't know if there is any truth to it at all.

I wouldn't care to be honest with you.... it's all soccer moms with their giant SUVs here anyways.

Yup. We went with the books instead of the cards cause we're still dreaming of a trip to Ireland in the near future (that may be our birthday presents to each other next year).
