PV2 Muffler and milage MPG

Hi,

I remember from an old thread that original PV muffler improved their mpg to go from 16 to 19. Can anyone provide some gas milage info about PV2? Thanks.

I believe my gas millage has improved. I haven't driven it too much but I think it improved from 11-12 mpg to around 13-14 mpg for me.

I am about to order one myself, my OEM exhaust is rusty, but working. Rusted to the flanges, the only rusty thing I could find under my VX, I am thinking about going with stainless steel pipes, we get plenty of road salt in MD, so those who have gone stainless, please show your pics, post your experiences, costs, etc... Thanks.

The tip is the only thing looking good on my exhaust, the rest is rusty. BTW is the PV2 made of stainless steel?

Nav - The PV2 is made of Stainless Steel. When I had an exhaust put on a car 8 years ago, I just drove to a local muffler shop and they worked up a quote in less then 5 minutes.

Been keeping records after every tank. After nearly 2k miles on the PV2 I've gained a extra one mpg. I've gone from 15 to 16 (city mainly) mpg. That's with the "power" button both on & off.

Dude a VX should be going over 16 mph I think you might have something wrong

I just put 2000 miles on my VX after installing a PV2 and dropping
in a K&N filter. I measured the mileage with my GPS and drove with the "Power Drive " on. I was very suprised to have gotten
21-24 mpg on the road and 19-20 around town. This is compared to 16-18 before the changes. Driving at 60 mph average and the AC on yesterday I got 22 mpg on a 300 mile trip. Tires are 265/70/R16 Bridgestone Revos. I also checked the mileage with an on-line map program. The downside is that the PV2 is loud and my wife hates it.

I'm more than surprised, that's shocking! How did you equate the mpg? IMHO the only reliable method is:

1) Fill up tank.
2) Clear trip meter.
3) Fill up tank, noting how much gas you're putting in.
4) Divide miles on the trip meter by gallons used.

Using this method, I'm getting 112-14 MPG in everyday light driving. When I did a few hours on the higway, I got about 17 MPG, that was going about 60-70 on cruise the whole time.

That is exactly how I calculated it. I made sure to use the GPS for the mileage since my tires are oversize. Actually it came out better with my 31'' MTs. I have made (4) 460 mile trips and it always comes out about 22 mpg. One shorter trip that included some town and off road came out at about 20 mpg. The combination seems to work well. I also use Synthetic oil???

I've never really calculated MPG, but I do reset my trip odometer each time I fill up and watch how many miles I can go on a full tank. My driving is mixed city and highway. When my VX was unmodified, I could go over 300-320 miles on a tank. After a few years and the addition of 33" tires, I was getting around 250. I recently installed the PV Muffler and hit 300 the other day. So that's about a 17% increase, or I'm guessing 4-5 MPG. I just bought a K&N Filter and will install it as soon as it arrives. I'll give an update in a couple of weeks!

I have never had good MPG. I think I saw 15 mpg the first tank, and then it went down from there. Every fill up dropped .5 mpg until it bottomed out at about 12.5. If I drove extremely "nice" I would get 13.

I took out the elbow for the air intake and that got me up to about 14mpg. After the PV2 install I get between 15 and 16 mpg every tank. I mostly drive backroads, so not too much stop and go, but speed limit is usually 35 (meaning about 45-55 avg speed).

With this increase the PV2 will pay for itself in just a couple of months. As for the sound: I love it, not too loud at all. My wife and kids have no problems, we can have the windows open and you can hear it but no problems inside to talk.

WOW - that really is amazing! I can't believe Isuzu didn't try this kind of thing. So, the PV muffler may not make you much faster but it gives you a few bucks in your pocket with every tank

Just wanted to say that since I have installed the supercharger, that rice rocket sound is gone! I still get some of the beer bottle effect but it just sounds mean instead of ricey! Made the SC worth that much more!
