I brought this home a few weeks ago...

2000 Toyota Yaris SR. 1.3 litres of slightly tweaked Japanese compact goodness that returns over 35mpg even with my heavy lead foot.

I needed something that wasn't guzzling the fuel at the same rate the VX does (ie not a Bentley...) and that was cheap to run and insure (<£20/service doing it myself and £145/year TPFT!) and could be relied on when I have 5:30am starts...

I've had 3 Yaris before this one so it was a bit of a no-brainer!

Better mileage in a VX than an STi?!

Now, granted, my VX is S/C'd and only sees the light on Sindays, I mean, Sundays. Roads are more barren, I have no real place to be, and driving it is simply fun. In the end, I turn out about 11-13mpg in the VX.

The STi is a DD. Two days of the week are stop and go traffic, the rest are usually quite tolerable. She does see Saturdays for cruising and errands. Saturdays are also for hanging with friends and simply put, ladies LOVE the STi, hahaha. So far, on average, I get 24-26mpg in the STi. No lie. Even other STi owners swear I am lying, but I kid you all not. She hasn't even seen any autoX yet. I say YET, though I don't think I am gonna go that route with her. The WRX got beat up enough in autoX. The new Borla catback arrives tomorrow so I am installing that this weekend hopefully so that Boxer can rumble and growl like it was meant to.

i promise that you would be really dissapointed in the power and gas mileage of BOTH of your vehicles at high altitude

makes your car feel really sluggish (just got back from sea level with my VX)

i gotta say, i have never felt a VX at sea level. the lowest mine has ever been was moab. but it felt like a completely different vehicle. it was actually fun to drive, usually i just feel dissapointed when i step on it in my VX trying to get over the rockies. (it pretty much just revs up a lot and doesnt get any faster at high altitude)

You sir need a SC! Mine was flying up Vale Pass on the way home (moab '08) passing cars that were asthmatic in the slow lane. Plus, I didn't need to brake on the downslope because of the great engine braking these things have! Now that was with 31" tires...now I got 32" tires but it still feels as zippy with the new Dynomax muffler & 2.5" cat-back exhaust.
