Is it when you are in Power Mode? My VX revs high in Power Mode sometimes when I give to much throttle...

all modes no gas
OK, most likely something different then. I have no clue.

to a year old code. Try gettng it read again and see if there is another code. Also I had this issue before it would rev high sometimes when I was starting and when driving. I almost crashed a couple of times. Turns out when i stretched out trying to get comfortable I was sliding my floor mats forward. The top would push the throttle cable and that would rev the engine. I have also heard this same issue with this solution on Click and Clack.
try cleaning EGR and IAF
We sit together, my VX and I, until only the VX remains.--Iamironman
Also when you first start it up
If you have Ac on do the revs increase and when you turn it off do they decrease?
If so thats normal
Some Good as ideas above
code was read days ago again, also about the air this problem started again when i was sitting in stand still traffic in a parking lot trying to get out for about 25 minutes with the air on. the car temp did get almost all the way up. not sure if this has anything to do with the high revs but it started right after this.
ps the thermostat was changed and radiator was flushed abut 8 months ago
Someone posted recently that they drive with the 'winter mode' switch on because of a similar rev issue. It doesn't fix the problem, it just makes it so you don't lunge towards the car stopped in front of you.

Put a smiley after you say that Bub.
Try to clean the following:
IAC (idle air control)
TPS (throttle position sensor)
440 is tricky since it mirrors a 171. A 440 can sometimes be related to a vacuum leak as well, but you would at least expect a 171 to be thrown in that case. Strange, but cars are made by humans so they are flawed as well. :P

Most likela vacum leak in the common chamber area. Try listening for a hissing sound?
Mine surges with the AC on. If I stop at a red light or something and the compressor kicks in and I'm not mashing hard enough on the brakes, it will move forward. A lot of times I'll slip it in to neutral while at a stop to prevent this.
