Hi mate, welcome to the site. Not sure these will be an easy find to be honest as i dont think they are shared with the trooper, frontera etc.

This thread has some options and part No.s

Tokico from trooper or bighorn the good choice. But much better if you change front and rear shocks in the same time!

i went onto Milner Off Road and had a look at the trooper shocks and the dont seam to have the external expansion chamber like the VX ones. Does that matter ??

crotch, im not positive, but im pretty sure that the expansion chamber is just because they are gas shocks (i believe all gas shocks have expansion chambers?)

I replaced mine before my MOT as there was barely a mm of rubber right the way around and the rattling was awful. I installed Monroes, which don't have the gas chamber but are safe and legal.

Basically it seems that any shock from the equivalent year's Trooper will fit.

    Hope that helps,

    Alan

The external chambers are for a net performance benefit. Basically they just allow for a larger volume of the viscous fluid which in turn allows for better heat dissipation. Heat build up is one of the major causes of shock failure.

Gas pressurized shocks just have pressurized gas above the fluid but does not necessitate the external chamber.

As long as you get a shock that is rated properly for the application and it has enough travel to accomodate full articulation of the suspension, you'll be OK.

It helps to understand how a shock absorber works when deciding which ones to buy. Basically, you are trying to move a large amount of fluid through a very small hole. The harder you try to force the fluid through the hole, the more the shock absorber resists that movement. It does not hamper total suspension travel, only how fast the suspension can articulate.

Wikipedia has a decent write up on it:

It's interesting to click on the Japanese & Chinese links, as they have more pics, graphs, & diagrams.
