    Repairing The AC Clutch

is it possible?? My bearing has gone, its knackered and makes a terrible noise when the pump isnt on. The pump still works fine and i dont really want to change the whole lot as its expensive but no one seams to sell the clutch assembly seperate to the compressor.

Anyone refurbished one?? Or know where to get one??

Not sure who over your side of the pond, but if you Google "air conditioner clutch" you should find plenty of options.
I don't think you will get the bearing only, but should get the clutch assembly for about 40 quid.
No one will have a listing for the VX so you will probably have to dismantle her and take in the sample part.

    Good luck

I'm not sure whether the compressors on a VX use a belt pulley with a bearing, but that is another possibility to consider.

We don't have a parts catalog for a JDM VX. You have the same 3.2L as a '97 Rodeo, Trooper, and Honda Passport or whatever those vehicles were called in the UK. It looks like the A/C clutch bearing is built into the pulley assembly for that compressor for that engine. The pulley assembly part # is 8-97079-275-0 for about $300 new in the US. Check the scrap yards or an Isuzu or Honda dealer for that part. You probably wanna take it off and bring it with you to make sure ya get the right part.

#9 is the part. No bearing is listed apart from the pulley.

This is all speculation without the JDM VX parts catalog.

Stay outta the mud and you'll save lots of money.

James, give my mate Ian a call. He's a mobile AC engineer and he has a Pajero - very similar to the VX. He'll be able to advise if not fix... 07843 936155 say Nick (alterastro) said to call. His web is www.subzeroac.co.uk

I feel your pain, my AC was doing the same, I still have the original in the garage, it works, but makes an awful howling sound. I found a company in texas that refurbs them, but no go on the VX 01 model. It is special to the VX. On a good note, the 3.5L 01 VX can utilize the 02 trooper compressor. It fits, just barely. New will run close to $1K, but you can get a used one for under $200 online.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
