    Lighter Tires?

Anyone found a "bigger" than stock tire that is a few pounds lighter than what came stock on a 2000VX? I'd prefer an all terrain tire but even a road tire will work if it looks right. In all honesty my offroading will be minimal for now. I'm trying to increase acceleration and braking efficiency, and if I get any mpg increase, then bonus :-) I think the stockers weighed around 34lbs. Also, anyone know the stock rim weight?

    thanks,
    Mike

See post #9 if you don't understand Ldub's response.

Use the search function on the left side of the home page with the search criteria 'lighter rims'. A few decent threads showed up.

    LOL...oh OW...

Oh Mr. MON-CHA...Don's pickin' on me again......

Maybe this'll clear things up a bit...

To me, it represents the ever present spectre of death, always lurking just behind the gossamer fabric that we perceive as reality.
I'd love to see it with little cartoon baloons over the heads of the three people...the middle dude would be like: "OH CRAP!, not THIS again."
The dude on the right would be saying: "Dammit Beavis, get your foot off my sword before I kick your arse."
The one on the left?..."Hey look...I'm side scrolling!"

    Sorry for the T-J...LIGHTER TIRES!

    x2!!!!!

No, the Cooper Zeon LTZ's I put on in 285/60-18 weigh 49 lbs each (which is the exact same as the Nitto Terra Grapplers in this size) vs. the 34 lb OEMs, but since I removed the back seat which weighed 65 lbs, it's basically a wash. (15 x4 =60) Yeah yeah, I know there's something about unsprung vs. sprung (?) weight that I didn't figure in my calculation there, but nonetheless, there's 65 lbs over the rear axle that's not there anymore and 15 lbs extra at the end of each axle.

Aren't the tires that VX Kat put on her VX lighter than stock, or are they just lighter than the Nitto Terra Grapplers? Anyone?

You can look in her gallery to see them.

I'm not sure who may or may not be intrested in this but if people are interested I will do a little project to contribute to the site since im a noob. I will try and find "lighter" rim choices for our VX's. Here is the first one...if wanted we can make a new thread for this specific purpose. This rim below is -14mm offset, 18x9.5" 6x5.5 and 30lbs...that is a weight savings of 4lbs from the stock 18x7 if I'm correct...so wider and lighter...it is available in black too!!! Let me know if there is interest in something like a wheel weight guide and i'll see what I can figure out.

Just picked up my Rota 18x8.5 rims for my STi yesterday.... supposed to weigh in at 19lbs a piece. Man.... beaitiful wheel and only if I could get the same w/finish for my VX.

I cant imagine what my current VX wheels (Enkei 18x8.5 et0) weigh in at, especially since they were 2 toned bronzed, which I am sure added a tad more weight.

My Nitto Terra Graps were (are) heavy as hell. 285/60-18. I remember lugging those to the shop when I had the Yokos swapped. Thought I felt steep pains in my left shoulder for a bit there. I am currently considering a smaller/lighter wheel-tire package on the VX. Still throwing that one around....

my falken STZ04 at a285/60/28 come in at 47lbs.. so no weight savings there either

Jump right in haha. And holy crap 18x8 @22lbs...sounds like muscle car rims. I'm definitely going to check that out. Combine that 48lb weight savings with some lighter tires...maybe another 20lbs or so...so 68lbs weight removed of rotating mass and our rides would accelerate, brake, and handle awesome compared to what they are now....And please everyone ( i know most of you know this) obviously this line of thinking will not work for the dedicated offroad enthusiast...but for us that live on the street with the occassional dirt blip this would rock!!!
