Thread: Stage 1 upgrade for the s/c out yet?

  1. #1

Question Stage 1 upgrade for the s/c out yet?

I heard a rumor a while back that Alpine was working on a Stage 1 computer reflash for the s/c. Is there any truth to this? If so, how much and when will be be available?

    TIA

Still under develepment. More boost than we have now requires tweaking of the ECU and they are looking at the best way to do this. As soon as an upgrade is available, all who have gotten a kit through me will be notified.

Ehh... do you mind posting it on the forum as well for us who bought the kit before you were officially selling it??

I'd appreciate knowing when it is available as well, as Alpine doesn't advertise much of anything to the consumers of their products.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it's to remap the fuel map to get optimal performance.

Along with the re-map on the fuel, they could easily remove the top speed fuel cutoff

Thanks Tone. Is this an indication that a smaller s/c pulley or larger crank pulley will be part of the kit?

I read in some earlier post that some of the SC kits shipped with the wrong size pulley, the one for the 3.2 instead of the smaller pulley for the 3.5

What is the correct O.D. of the pulley that weas supposed to come with our kit?

55mm is the standard pulley size, measured with the belt off, inner ridge to ridge. It appears you can run down to a 52mm before the computer freaks out. When the stage kits are released, I would doubt that they will remove the top speed limiter but maybe. A smaller top pulley would be one of the components.

Of course I will post here when anything new comes from Alpine, assuming they tell me!

You mean, as a stage 2 kit or something? I wouldn't think we would need an intercooler for just the SC as there is such a small amount of boost.

The engine bay is hot. Some of the heat is picked up by the SC and transferred to whatever air that passes through it... the moving parts of the SC itself will also produce heat. Any kind of cooling would help... not so much in terms of power gained but to help reduce risk of predetonation... especialy if you want to cheat and run low octane fuel. If boost is increased with a smaller pulley, this is even more important. For now... alcohol/water injection is probably the more inexpensive alternative.

http://www.machv.com/pivwatsprayc.html Nice controller but not sure if the nozzle produces a mist that is fine enough for injecting directly into the intake.

I've been checking out this water/alchohol injection kit from SMC Enterprises for some time. It offers more features than the Aquamist kit at half the cost. I especially like the indicator lights and adjustability of spray and boost level set point from inside the vehicle. He also has an optional MAF sensor adaptor so the spray automatically adjusts based on airflow changes.

Another really cool item that just hit the market is this CO2 intercooler by [url=http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.cfm/partfamilyid/1160]DEI called the CryO2[url]. The cost is in the same ballpark but you have to get CO2 refills periodically. I think this won a SEMA award. This kit appears cheaper until you figure in all the parts you need.
