You were in the dry lake bed, the Hammers trails were in the hills right there. That video is from a race they have there every year (2010 will be #4) called King of the Hammers. It combines rock crawling (the Hammers Trails) and desert racing (on the lake bed and surroundings) in one race. It is growing fast and now has qualifier races (going to the one in Tucson in 2 weeks). A ton of fun to watch...I hope to make it out there for the race sometime.
I have the King of the Hammers videos (The first and second crusades) on my Christmas wish list (view the teaser here)
PB...your just to young to remember zoomie exhaust. They were pretty popular back in the day!

Yeah, pretty insane watching them bash into each other and push each other around. Some of those guys helping to push the trucks back over are NUTS. One of the dudes looks like he escaped getting crushed buy inches...
How do those rigs control the rear end steering? Do they have like a stick or something or a second wheel???
Bart
Watching is kind of like watching Ralley racing in Europe...no fences, just stay out of the way. When I go to the qualifier I am volunteering, so will be right on the courses either as a judge or to help with recovery
Rear steer is usually set up with a joystick, it usually has a return to center, and uses a hydrolic ram to steer the axle.
Wood is expensive these days...the swing set is just rusting away in the back yard!
Bart, you've prolly already seen these, but for the uninitiated...

Yeah, the movie car was all a mock up as well. So technically, a "movie correct" car does not have a working blower anyhow!
I did read somewhere once that a working unit would produce something like 600HP! That would be insane, but I think the car would have to be beefed up a little to handle that kinda torque. After all, the Falcons are uni-body () so...
