I would take the original 300SL over that ANY day!

Did anyone else notice the Lexus steering wheel/dash shot in the SLS gallery (picture 10 of 25)?

This is true! I've actually been thinking about those pop-up tents. I bet if I looked hard enough, I could find one that fits the roof rack of the Trooper.

I have a friend who used to work for them. They used to be right off the Turnpike in Broomfield, but I think they've moved a few blocks East to a bigger location. There's a lot of hand-made woodwork etc in them. The only problem I've heard is that, hand-made aside, their build quality isn't all that great. They skimp on things like running cables through the frame without grommits. Eventually, the steel is going to cut through the cables, and POOF.

Personally, I'm more enamored with the Adventure Trailers. I figure one of those in yellow would do nicely.

On the other hand, if your VX doesn't get dirt under its wheels all that often, then a T@B Trailer would be even better.

My whole thing is that I still just don't understand why you need all that to go camping. A tent, a sleeping bag, a nice big cooler or two, bed rolls, extra clothes, food, and some decent cooking stuff is all you really need to camp. Then you need some tools and survival gear for you and your rig, plenty of water and a weapon or two. With my Trooper, all that and I still have TONS of room. So what exactly do you need to trailer along with you out in the the middle of nowhere, besides a portable house? In which case, just stay home 'cause that ain't campin'!!!

True, but most RV owners never claim to be 'campers'. They 'travel' or go RV'n. Since Wifey & I are more in a tourista mode, the RV suits our needs. I don't rekin I'll ever get her to go 'primative'. Truth be told: I much prefer a hot shower than to break thru the ice for 'splash bath' (& we won't even discuss the issues associated with a privy).

I have seen three of these new Merc's here in Napa Valley. Black, Red, and Silver. Freaking gorgeous in person. Two of them were driving with two original SL's right behind them, along with a couple Ferrari's and a Maserati.

Sounds like a photo shoot in progress.

Be interesting to see if you recognize them in any upcoming ads.

My opinion of the Earthroamer and such stuff is that there is a select niche of folks who take a motor home all over the nation... The Earthroamer is for those retirees who choose to get into the back country all over the nation instead, like what I want to do and have thus far failed at... True expedition style!
