    HID conversions- Hella driving lights

has anyone ever tried to HID a set of hella driving lights?? like these-
    http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lights-Li...n=HLA005750941
i own quite a few sets and im looking to do some HID conversions in them. but im afraid that they will melt with the extra added head since they arent made of metal. and im doing the 55w HID's... not the 35w ones.

anyone tried it yet? or am i just gonna try and see what happens?

Rowhard converted the Hella Micro DEs to HIDs in the front round marker lights, but I don't recall if the Hella housing is plastic or metal, and I realize they're way smaller than your planned lights, but he may have some wisdom on the subject...

FWIW...I converted my PIIA roof lights to HID, I think they're all metal/glass.

I don't know that HID's burn any hotter than halogen bulbs...

Halogen bulbs may even burn at a higher temp than HID's...

The kelvin "temp" associated with HID's is indicative of the spectrum of light they produce, not actual temp, otherwise, they'd melt anything (housing) that they were in.

hmmm... maybe ill talk to some other people and see what they know...

fyi- 55w HID is equivalent to 250w of halogen power... so i would guess that they are much hotter...

i got these HIDs as a graduation gift, intended to be added to my hella's... but the person who gave them to me melted a set of driving lights on his own vehicle using HID's...

kenny or rowhard have any ideas?? i know your both experienced with HID's

good idea on the yootoob though dubski. ill look around on there too

I'd guess the opposite, sort of. HID bulbs turn electricity into light and give off some heat. Incandescent bulbs turn electricity into heat and give off some light.
