Ya, I don't see any info on the power supply but one of the comments said it was a 300W. You wont be upgrading to anything better than what it comes with on that power. Might want to consider upgrading that if you want a new vid card later down the road.

Lots of integrated stuff too, but not a big deal, depending on your primary usage.

Not a power gamer box, but still capable.

Personally not an HP fan, but there is a set up and brand for every application.

Priced to sell.

Price is sort of ok. But I agree with wormgod on HP is a bit crappy sometimes.
You can build one with a bit better options for a $150 to $200 more.
The AMD quad core is ok if you're not gaming, it is good that the Mobo has an AM3 slot for a future upgrade to a faster CPU. The onboard bus might be slow on that board tho for a future faster CPU. Also true to go at least 500W on mobo if you plan to upgrade the vid card.

A bit strange that it has 6Gig memory for an AMD chipset, (AMD likes dual channel so 4 or 8 are more common - Intel likes triple channel so 6Gig is more common)

You wanting to upgrade the vid card is good, but then you are overpaying on the Mobo with the integrated 9100 GPU on board...


Here's what I would suggest off the top of my head to someone who wants a decent budget computer BUT not a strong gamer (I've had good luck with these brands):

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition - $180
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-790XT - $130
DDR3 Memory - OCZ Gold 4GB DDR3 1600 Dual Channel - $125
EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GT 550MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ - $100
Hard Drives - Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB - $90
CASE – Any basic Antec… - $50
Power Supply - OCZ StealthXStream 500W - $50
Windows 7 64BIT - $100
DVD Writer - $30
Mouse Keyboard - $30

If you prefer Intel, you can probably go to an i5 but the socket set for this older chip is limiting for future upgrades. Also you could probably knock a $100 bucks off if you want to get more basic memory and go down to a X4 635 AMD CPU. The Black Edition can do a pretty decent overclock and the Gigabyte boards do a good job on overclocking. ASUS and some MSI are also decent motherboards... More expensive ones give you dual lan, and more PCI slots.

When building a new system I always found that for 25% more money than a cheap system you can get two to three times more computer. From my experience...

Here's what I would do with this price tag:





You could get rid of the blu-ray drive and up ram to 12gb. Or get rid of blue ray and go for an Intel X-25 SSD...OR BOTH...
get a mac, its better anyways.

Yeah, x2 on what everyone said. Dubster, me thinks its time you delve into building your own PC.

I'm also not much of an HP PC fan, nor am I an AMD fan. May would argue with me on that, but I stick with Intel personally. Ask away with questions, I think we all here can get you a decent machine for what you want to spend.

First off those, please give us your main priorities when it comes to PC usage, something like this:

1) Watching Porn on the Internet
2) Keeping my post count high on VX.info
3) Playing "Leisure Suit Larry" 8 hours a week
4) Editing video
5) Listening to MP3s
6) Ripping DVDs
7) Etc, etc...

Something like that would help us decide what you would require.

Seriously? I don't wanna get into this debate, but imo, while Macs are ok, they are more expensive and less 'customizable' and in general, dumbed down too much for my taste. Back in the day you "needed" a Mac to do anything serious when it came to creativity (photo editing, video editing, sound prod, etc) but nowadays there ain't anything a Mac can do that a good PC can't. The only thing you get with a Mac nowadays is that warm fuzzy feeling you get whenever you do something the rest of the world does...like buy an i-Pod or Prius or whatever the current 'fad' might be. Plus, Macs don't come in black, afaik.

Thanks for all the input guys, & while I appreciate your vote of confidence, it'll be a while before I feel competent to do any sort of diddling with the innards of the magic box...

I clicked on the "proceed to checkout" button a few days ago, set it up today, and so far I'm LOVIN' IT!...

The thing SMOKES compared to my tired old (2003-4 e-Machine) coal/steam powered unit...

Also doesn't crash when I watch a youtoob vid...or when it's just sitting there idling...doing NOTHING...
