Very, very nice! Bet that's a screamer below 80mph. Can it keep up with bikes?

Great job with the dash too!!!!

    Gear

I have never raced a bike or tried to chase one so I do not know if it can keep up or not, maybe it can pass them I do not know. I do not have any problem with acceleration when it is over 80mph, but I do not have a real need to chirp the tires when I am going 80mph either.

Thank for the dash complement, the dash was a custom creation by my brother.

The car is a lot of fun and it is getting more body mods and is at the body shop now. With the engine, transmission, suspension and 13” brake swap it is similar to the C4 Corvette drive train and braking but with the Fieros slightly lighter weight and shorter wheel base, and a roomier interior (no trans in the middle of the car). I always like the Corvette power train set up but I liked the Fiero GT styling better so I combine them to get my dream car. This is defiantly not a car for most people but it works for me. I get the same kind of reaction on the Fiero as people have toward the VX some people love it and think it is super cool and some people hate it so both cars are right up my alley. As soon as I get a VX I will have two cars that have people asking “what is that?”

That wasn't my point. I have an 89 -- which came with the same intake/setup. There was only about 10hp difference stock between 86/89. After I found little difference between 250hp hondas, acuras, etc...and a Corvette -- at hwy speeds, I wasn't as happy with the car. As you point out, yours is lighter and that matters. But, it will still matter more at lower rpms.

I learned a couple of things while having "fun" with an Acura TL owner on the way to the golf-course one early Sunday. I learned why demand for late 70's and 80's C4 Corvette's isn't all that high. Those TPIs are great for low/mid rpms...just not for a HP number. (This isn't an insult -- as you'll see I still have the same type intake pictured a page/two earlier in this thread. I just decided to cam it and stroke it too.) Remember the VX is stroked too!

I think the C4 is one of the best platforms for kit cars and the TPI (or LT) ZF6 is a great transplant for today's economy needs. I wish I had a ZF6 TPI in my VX. The torque (acceleration) would be much better, as would the MPGs. In a 3.4k lb car, that 6-sp gets 30mpg on the hwy. It also pulls 0-60 in 5.7secs. It's limitation is hwy/high-rpm performance.

In your lighter Fiero, I'm sure everything is more fun. If the motor is modified, maybe it's a blast. I never was one for chirping tires at high speed either, but I finally decided having more was necessary in today's market of 250hp family sedan -- economy cars.

Since the TPI shines best at lower rpms and is often referred to as the perfect truck engine, I think it would make the prime candidate for a VX powerplant. I think it would be more responsive and get the MPGs we all wish the VX could pull.

Again, I love what you did...It looks great. In fact, I'd love to drive it! I'm pretty sure I know what it can do!

98Vette, No problem here, I did not even think you were making a point and I did not take anything you said as an insult or anything like that, I was just telling my reasons for making my Fiero the way I did and why I did what I did. I was just telling about what my dream was and that is all. I am glad everyone does not like what I like or what you like if they did it would it would not fun or unique, we would all drive Subarus, VWs or something more practical. I was just kidding around about the chirping the tires and passing bikes and stuff, I guess I should put and stuff in my posts so it does not seem so serious, sorry if it seemed that way. I was just kidding around. No offense taken and none given.

Thanks for the complements on my car,
    Chris
