    cv boot grease leaking

Alrighty, first issue in along time with this thing. The front driver side cv boot appears to have cracked open spraying greese all over the inards of the wheel well. First, can just cv joint be replaced or do I have to replace whole shaft. Second any ideas on finding parts for this operation.
so sad to see it sitting

didn't even notice any real issues wondering if it may just be split boot and not even cv? how bad to replace just the boot if so? Only time I get alittle loping is on a really hard take off but it seems to be more from the drivetrain than the front end. Little bit of metallic shavings but not bad

As long as you caught it in time (still grease in the CV joint?) & didn't run it until dry, just take it apart, clean it up, re-grease & put it back together with some fresh boots & you're good to ->...

Your CV should be OK but the metal shavings worries me. When my CV went out, I was getting a clicking sound when decelerating. If you end up needing to replace the CV, I think Marlin found a source for them (includes the half shaft).

At this point I would not be that worried, just plan on replacing the rubber boot when you can, some guys have run for years without knowing there boots were torn in half. Doesn't take that long, and is not that hard, but you will get dirty. Then when you are replacing the boot you can inspect the CV's and make sure they are ok.

So,,,,,,, went to replace the outer driver side boot...... Ran into a few snags. Two of the bolts in the lower a arm (the rear two) were to sunken in to get a wrench onto and were spinning making it impossible to take off lower ball joint and slip everything out. This led to hours of frustration and to taking apart upper ball and a few other pieces and yeah hate the damn abs line feed bye the way. Finally removed entire shaft and stripped everything apart. CV's both still looked good reassembled with one small problem the band clamps for the boots were crap and two of the four broke while tightening. Have industrial zip ties on there for now anyone know of a good clamp that you can slip on after the fact that will work. Can I use a worm drive clamp without any issues?

NO...every time it rotates to the "small" side, the screw mechanism will rub against the boot, eventually wearing through.

Just about any auto parts store will have CV boot clamps.
