    Baby Seat Installation

Hey there everybody... i recently bought a VX, which i will be posting pics of and adding description once i finish cleaning it up and fixing all the years of neglect from the previous dousche, i mean owner.
she has 104k and since i got her about 3 weeks ago, i have:
    replaced timing
    water pump
    all brakes
    lots of blown fuses
lots of burnt out light bulbs
sanded and restored headlights from milky look to clear again lol
    new wheels and tires
new stereo/speakers (old one was literally fried, and speakers were completely blown)
still trying to get "smoker" odor to go away...any suggestions?
still need to clean headliner, again tips welcomed
ordered gatorback cladding spray, not here yet.

anyway, the reason i was making this post is because in 6 weeks, i'm gonna be a dad for the first time, and i need to put a baby seat in the back...

yeah i know it's a pain in the *** to even get back there, but i was wondering if anyone had any advise as to installing a seat back there, or installation location.

thanks for reading, hope to get some responses...

Use the search function, this has been discussed ad-nauseum. Yes its a pain in the arse.

Passenger side seat forward extenders may help, but otherwise get a roof rack and mount the seat upstairs... j/k of course.

    Here are pics of mine:

I have a 2yr old and a 7 month old. I keep the passenger seat leaned up a little (makes it easier, also the seat extenders help too, they move the seat up a bit) then when putting the kids in I just lean in and put my son in his seat and buckle him up, and for my daughter, if you have a brand new baby it may be easiest to either install though the back door onto the base or between the front seats (easiest with passenger seat leaned forward). For my daughter I just tilt the seat on it's side a bit and slide her in and lock her into the base, my kids love riding in the VX. My son is always knocking on the door when he comes outside trying to get in it lol. As far as getting the seat/base mounted, it's super easy. I keep a towl on the seat and pull the seat belt ALL the way out so it locks in, slide it through the base, pull it as tight as I can (I usually lean on the seat/base) and then on the base there is an adjusting knob to tilt the rear up which tightens it up so I turn that until I can't anymore. Let me know if you have any more questions or needs any more pics.

    the answer =

Rear Facing : load from back door. Seat folds flat backwards to allow for easy loading.

    Forward Facing: Tom4Bren Seat Sliders

    super easy.

easier than a 4 door sedan

Congrats on the baby.....Its an adventure, and worth every minute.

    TOW heads

In colonial times, families grew their own flax to make into fabric for clothing. Transforming the flax into thread was a complicated, involved process with many time-consuming steps. After the flax was harvested, it was soaked in water for several days to soften it so the inner fibers could be removed from the stalk. To separate the long, thin fibers from the shorter, coarser ones, the flax was pulled through a bed of nails or combed in a process called "towing." The shorter fibers that were extricated were of a lesser quality and were called "tow." This led to the term "towheads" to describe people, particularly children, whose hair resembled these stran

So tow head means coarse, not blonde?

I was bright blonde when I was a kid too and I never did like the term tow head. Mostly cuz its sounds like poop head or smelly face....."yeah well, you're a tow head".

What RamAirZ said. I will add one thing, our VX's do have LATCH system tie-down points under the rear carpet, but don't bother trying to use them. If you do you'll find that the straps come down from the back of the seat to the floor at a 45 degree angle, thereby consuming a ton of cargo space. The VX has retractable/locking shoulder belts in the back, so those work just fine.

<ShamelessPlug> or you can keep oil behind the strap and lose VERY little storage space.</ShamelessPlug>

Yup, that's why I didn't bother mentioning them, in reality they are meant for holding cargo when you have the rear seats leaned forward or out. 2 more tie-down points show up when you lean the seat up or remove it. I originally tied it down back there and realized it didn't help much and the locking belt worked just fine.

i think what he is talking about is only found on the 2001 VX.. if you look under your carpet behind the rear seat you will probably find a threaded hole on each side of the vx.. the 01s came with dedicated child seat anchors there (but i would imagine they still take up a good amount of cargo room. i took mine out and gave them to a 99 VX owner a while back, as far as i know they worked just fine

their location is indicated by the two arrows closest to the bottom of the photo..

these are photos of the actual hold downs themselves
