    The new Truck...

Some of you might remember me kicking around a while back. I had my VX up for sale in the early summer. decided to keep it a little longer but now it's back up for sale again...

in any case... I thought I'd poke in and say Hi and show you all what I'm driving now instead of the VX:

1989 Toyota Pickup 4" suspension lift, 3" body lift, 35x12.5 R15 DC Mud Country tires.

I bought the VX when my last Toyota pickup was recalled by Toyota for frame rot and well I love the VX but my heart was always in the Toyotas...

Sorry to see you go, but at least you're leaving for something else you love. Nice truck, reminds me of the truck Marty McFly gets at the end of Back to the Future.

I know what you mean. I still sometimes miss the Tacoma I used to drive too. That ones' pretty sweet, and has a look similarly timeless like the VX.

Wow that's a pretty crazy coincidence. What if the future me traveled back in time and whispered that thought in my ear last night before I even read this thread? I'm freakin' out man!!! Lol...

Footnote: I did not reach 88 MPH on my way to work today.

I've always wondered this so I'll go ahead and ask it here... what is the purpose of the roof mounted "visor"? I've seen those on trucks before but always thought that it would absolutely destroy the drag coefficient and (potentially) make a dramatic impact on MPG. Not that I think you necessarily care about either of those to begin with if you're buying this truck, but just curious...

yeah Marty McFly Toyota was a 1985 SR5

it's the "holy grail" of toyota pickups because it was the first year for electronic fuel injection, and the last year with the solid front axle. the body style was pretty much the same through all of the 80s though.

my pickup is a 1989 which is the first year for the generation AFTER the Marty pickup. I'd be lying if I said my obsession with these trucks didn't start with that movie though

    ----

As for the visor thing, it's one of the few things I really don't like about the truck. the purpose is to help block the sun... and it doesn't actually add much drag, you can't tell from the pictures but it only attaches to the top of the truck through 3 arms, and the rest is open air. Inside the truck it looks like 1 solid piece but it's open enough to not cause much drag.

here's a good picture to show you what I mean:

the annoying thing about it is those hollow areas on the top, they catch and hold water, so I'll get it the truck and it will be completely dry and as soon as I drive forward it dumps water, from rain fall days ago, all over my windshield

I almost forgot... I finally "finished" my Corvette V8 swap into my Nissan 240sx also. Here's a video of the first start and drive....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3Wg9GuEQEc

^the braking system was drained of fluid due to a leak so thats why I was driving it so slow (I only had the e-brake to stop me )

All I'm waiting on now is for my friend's welding shop to build me a custom exhaust and then it's on the road... just in time to put it away for the winter but that's pretty much what I spent my summer working on.

Sounds smooth as silk at idle lol... I guess that was a factor of having no exhaust system installed yet?

Didn't know you were a Silvia guy, I saw a guy on the interstate about six months ago driving a RHD 240SX, license plate said NOT S14. I guess S14 is the US-spec body code?

S14 is the chassis code for the 1995-1998 model years (same chassis code as Japan, though in Japan it was 1994-1998)

    S13 was from 1989-1994 (89-93 in Japan)

S15 was from 1999-2002 (japan only, we didn't get S15s in the USA).

    --------

if I had to guess he had done an S14 front end conversion.

a lot of guys put S14 front ends on S13s or S15 front ends on S14s.

do you remember if it had pop-up headlights, or fixed headlights? projectors? were they curvy or sharp edged?

    -----

I'm a big S-chassis guy, I've got that S14 with the V8 as well as an S13 convertible with a Siliva front end conversion

Sorry, didn't get that good a look. I think it was curvy, pretty sure it didn't have projectors, but can't remember on the headlights. Like I said, I got passed by him on the interstate so I didn't get that great a look.

Funny thing, Sonya and I did a little date night thing on Friday and found ourselves searching through the DVR for something to watch after dinner. Suddenly I remembered I DVR'd the original Back to the Future months ago. Tragically Sonya had never seen it before (she's 7 years younger than me, and I was devastated to realize that she wasn't even born yet when it came out) so this thread must have been destiny!
