    Synthetic oil and water

    Question
    Would synthetic oil cloud up if water, or coolant
    wAs mixing with it?
    I am STILL dealing with the overheating issue. Thought
    I had it whipped when I replaced the thermostat, and
    New intake gaskets, then a couple of weeks later it
    Started to smoke at start up, but quickly quit smoking
    After it warmed up. Well, Monday night, it wouldn't stop
    Smoking so I took the intake off, and found it FULL of
    Coolant. So I replaced gaskets again, got it all
    Together again fird it up, and it smoked more than before,
    Killed an o2 sensor (bank 2 sensor 1).
    The oil was changed just a couple of weeks ago, and looks
    Like it should.......and is not milky AT ALL.
    Now I'm thinking heAd gasket, but would have thought the oil
    Would be milky.
    If it's not head gasket, where, and how would all that coolant
    Fill the intake?
    Any suggestions

    Have you replaced the radiator? I was having over heating issues as well and figure my thermostat was working, becuase it was sporatice. I replaced the radiator after about 161,000 miles and WOW what a difference.

    I mixed fresh valvoline syn power with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water..came out milky... Looked like cider

    Thanks etl, I kinda did the same thing, with the same result
    but I used mobil 1. It was milky, which is good, I guess, who knows.....
    Crager, I didn't replace the radiator, but had some of the good
    old fashioned flush with the acid in it, and flushed it clean.
    I'm not overheating really, I am loosinf the coolant, THEN overheating.
    Another thing, when I saw all the coolant in the intake, I thought for sure
    I would find cylinders full of coolant too, so I got the shopvac, made an adapter to reduce hose down to 1/2" and stuck it down to the cylinders to suck up the coolant, but, suprise, there wasn't a drop of coolant down there.
    I am totally lost.
    Gonna keep at it though, it's awful tough
    Going from the vx, to a borrowed s-10...lol

    I seem to remember reading somewhere, that our intakes had a water gallery in them, but now I can't find it anywhere.

    Coolant in the intake doesn't come from a head gasket or cracked head. There is just no way that can happen.
    So for coolant to be in the intakes, it has to be leaking from somewhere else.
    If our intakes do actually have a coolant gallery in them, then that must be cracked, or have a crook seal.


    Of course, as per usual, I might be totally wacked out on the memory - it's all downhill after you turn 20, and I am further downhill than most on here.

    I will find out for myself when I do my intake gaskets in a few weeks time.
    (If I remember).

    Is it really in the intake?....or underneath, between the heads?

    There are a couple of heater hoses that run under the intake manifold, also, the throttle body has coolant circulated through it. (possibly fed by said hoses, can't remember)

    ..

    If it's of any assistance, here's a pic of the bottom side of the intake (common chamber) that bolts to the heads.

    Dub buddy!
    Turn that critter upside-down, fill it with coolant, and that's
    what I got!
    Still attached to the engine though!
    I had to use a turkey baster to suck out the coolant before
    removing it
