Anybody ever heard of this? Factory Convertible Dodge Dakota pickup?

Was flipping through images.google.com a few minutes ago and came across this:

Very very rare, apparently only 909 were produced way back in 1990. The article references one that was sold on eBay but doesn't list the winning bid (FAIL). Here's the text from the article, it's kind of work-iffy so I'll spare you the direct link.

This Dodge Dakota Convertible truck was sold on eBay recently, and one lucky car tuning enthusiast was fortunate enough to grab this unique automobile. This is 1 of 909 built in 1990, and there were only around 3,000 ever manufactured between 89-90. Yes, the top is completely factory, and this truck is reasonably priced for how rare it is. Many of these convertible trucks were destroyed in the Cash for Clunkers, a program that lets owners trade in their old cars and trucks for a discount when buying a new car or truck from a dealership. Looks like the owner put a little work into tuning the Dakota convertible as well. Listed in the auction are several modifications including Eagle alloy rims, lowering links, alarm system, and a deep sounding performance exhaust.

I bet this truck definitely turns a lot of heads cruising down the road. From the factory the Dodge Dakota Convertible truck comes with a 3.9-liter V6, but many Dakota enthusiasts swap V8 engines into these lightweight trucks. Dodge even had a Shelby version for the non-convertible models back in the day, so it’s too bad this drop top truck didn’t see a factory V8. I’m tempted to buy it since this type of vehicle will only go up in value. Many people don’t even know that these trucks exist. I never heard of a factory convertible truck until I just now stumbled across it online.

Yeah Lisa in addition to it's naturally "eccentric" looks, it appears that the owner dented almost every body panel. But my absolute favorite is the ghetto/redneck "bezel" around the radio.

Are you thinking about this? I think it was called a Lumina?

If so I don't think they came with a factory drop-top - this is the best ever:

that's just wrong on so many levels.

    Edit:

After a quick google, it appears the Chevy Luv wasn't available from the factory as a convertable. It was however a popular mod.

I went to school with a guy in Arkansas who had one of those Dodge convertibles. FUGLY in person more so than pictures. The buttons to hold the top on were silver shiney and the top was black, with the truck itself red w/ black decal stripes covering the length of the truck.

you could order the convertable from the dealer

but what they did was send a truck to another company that installed their own convertible top. They were not high in demand or in quality. This is all I can remember from my days of selling Dodge vehicles.

My parents almost bought one a few months ago...I made fun of em until they realized how stupid two 50 year old grandparents would look in one of those
