Question Roof Basket - Questions...Advice needed

    Hi,
I just bought this basket off of Craigslist locally for a great price.
I took a chance on the size/fit... now that I have it sitting on the roof, it hangs over by 6" on each side.
It is 4' wide... apparently from a Toyota Tundra. Was bolted to the cab overhang on a full truck rack.
    Questions...

    1. Does it look stupid hanging over by 6 inches on each side? Honesty is ok
    2. What brand/model is it?
    3. Should I just sell it and get a basket that fits?
    4. Should I try to mod it to fit?

    Ugggh.

To me it does look too large. If I had spent money on it already I would just cut 6" out of the middle and ask someone to weld it back together. Or maybe you could cut 6" out and then flare one of the sides (if it's a pipe) and bolt it together in the other side. Maybe that would be cheapie.

Looks pretty silly imho. Looks like the yakima megawarrior. I bet you could trade it to someone for a smaller loadwarrior.

If you cut it, I would put solid rods inside at least the bottom two large bars and the two center smaller bars

Yep, its too big, but cutting it would be easy, 10 bucks for a angle grinder at Harbor freight, and you can use the conduit sleeves at lowes, or use smaller pipes inside. No way you are welding that together...that stuff is crazy thin (unless you are an awesome welder, or know someone who is)

Actually, I would use broom stick/dowel rod for the inside and just screw the tubing to it...

Yeah... I thought it looked "not right".

I'm not too keen on modding it.

So, anyone have a larger SUV and want a basket?

    Yeah, looks like the MegaWarrior...it's 52"L x 48" W
    LoadWarrior is 44" L x 39" W

I think it looks too wide. Proportions are off.

    The large Thule 696 is 62" x 39".

VX KATs got right...it's just too wide.

I've got a buddy with an older Jeep Cherokee that may want it, but is flat broke. I'll send info to his folks to see if they want to buy it for him for Christmas. First though, we would need to measure his roof line compared to mine to see if it's wider-enough to hold that big basket!

Might trying joining a Hummer / Tahoe / Expedition forum and listing it for sale there. If you got a pretty good deal on it you might be able to break even and then some.

It's all about finding the right buyer.

I sold a trailer, my old Nitto Tires, a coffee table, and now the basket!

I recommend checking out a Rola rack on etrailer. I think its the best looking basket for the VX. With a coupon, it can be had for about $150 shipped, including the fariing. The curves on the front and rear match the VX's roofline. I've got one on mine and I have been very happy with it. The price is right and it seems better made than the Yakima or Thule. Also, I remember reading a post (I think from Zues) showing a modded basket mount that attaches to the bottom of the crossbars. It made it look more streamlined and easier to access. Good luck with your search and keep us posted on what mods you purchase with your Craig's List earnings.
