    That's not fair. I want a manual.

Would manual interfere with the TOD in any form? I have wondered about this for a while. Maybe that is why there was no option.

Is it a manual or is it a "slap stick" auto like rally cars use? :wtfg2: :sighp2:

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I went and test drove Hummers back in 1994, before they were released as commercial vehicles (they were more reasonably priced back then, too). I remember that everything about them was spartian, simple, designed not to break. Yet they had automatic transmissions. I asked a guy about that, and he told me that it would make the 4-wheel anti-slip differnetial (whatever their name for it was) unable to operate; it needed mechanical control over the transmission.

BTW, the Hummers (not that H2 BS) are truly exceptional vehicles. When I did this, I went to AM General in South Bend, Indiana, to the factory where they have their own testing grounds. Back then, they'd take you through their testing grounds on a guided tour - you driving, a factory rep in the passenger seat. And not just a sales guy; these were guys who'd worked on the development of the vehicle. The stuff they took me through, and how well the Hummer handled it... just amazing stuff.

I'd still never drive one even if you offered it to me for free. Why? They're designed around a military philosophy that has pros and cons. On the upside, the design spec includes things like "must be able to have 1/4 stick of dynamite detonated directly underneath, and continue normal operation" and "must continue to operate normally within proximity to a thermonuclear blast" (not kidding on either). But they also priorized what's inside the truck: the drivetrain is high to protect it; that's a good thing. But the "expendable" portions, the non-critical things that are in the crumple zones? The people. Soldiers cost less than Hummers. It's more important that the Hummer keep working than the soldier (or, you) die.

But enough of the Hummer. Vive la VX!
