What's the most backspacing you've seen?

I know this can/will depend on the overall diameter and thickness of the tire/wheel combo. I'm looking at buying/mounting an 8.5 or 9" tire/wheel combo. I'm trying to determine how much of it I can shove back into the wheel wells.

Specifically, the wheels I'm looking at have positive offsets in the 10mm to 30mm range. The larger 30mm offsets have 6" or more backspacing with the wheel width in question. Since it looks (to me) like the stock backspacing is 4.75-5", I'm trying to figure out where backside contact occurs.

My tires will be between 30-31.5" in diameter.

On the standard rims with no spacers you can mount a 285 75 16 tyre and it wont stick out beyond the wheel arches. you will need to attack the front cladding a little and the inner wheel arch for steering but the back has no issues.

Go through the wheel and tyre thread, it has most combinations available and all the info on the different offset combo's

Or go the other way and just put all the tire outside the wheel arch

I would try talking to marlin or littlebeast. Iirc they bothe have larger width rims with close to a factory offset, so that should at least be a little more backspacing than factory.

Yep, you got it. I got as close to factory offset as I could.
Here is where I started, and since then, I have kept the same wheels as shown here, but went up to a 34"x11.5" tire. I also lowered the front end down to almost stock height, looks funny, but improved the offroad handling drastically. My VX just sits in the driveway most of the time, less than a tank a gas through it a month.

Ultra Goliath wheels: 108mm bore
6 on 5.5, 18x9, 5.5" back space, +12mm offset
General Grabber AT2 275/65/18 P-metric
OME919 springs
14 turns on t-bar

One thing that confuses me is the stock wheel is listed with 38mm offset. Since it's a 7" wheel, the center point would be 3.5". 38mm is right at 1.5".

1.5" + 3.5" = 5" backspacking for the OEM wheel. (According to my calculations).

But this chart shows it should be 5.5" backspacing. The chart looks wrong.

Or I don't understand something.



(I also did a search on backspacing. I looked thru most of the threads with that term. Not a single post mentioned OEM backspacing. Since my new VX no longer has stock wheels, I cannot verify what it SHOULD be.)

1) That's what I get (well 2.1" and change)

2) If I understand the equations correctly, I think that 30mm offset would generate too much backspacing.

Have you ever tried this? Punch in the OEM specs and what you're considering and see if helps you visualize all these numbers.
