IMO 3" is way too big for a V6. Dunno what your stock pipe is, but in your shoes I would go 2.5"...in fact I had a 17748 on my old 99 Trooper (same 3.5L as a VX, although honestly the 2.25" would work fine too based on size charts at Dynomax). I liked it a lot. So much that I put a 17747 on my current 93 Trooper (went with the smaller 2.25" for the smaller 3.2L). Neither one droned on the highway, BTW. Nice mellow throb at idle, you can hear it on acceleration but it is not noticeable at cruise.
