And UUUUGGGLLLLLY to boot, at least ours looks good while were running from gas pump to gas pump!
I guess it would be cool.......Originally said by Car and Driver
The all-steel body-on-frame vehicle is about the size of a Nissan Xterra but is said to weigh 5500 pounds. It was designed in 1966 for the Romanian military and is still produced there by Aro SA.
If it were bullet proof
Looks like a cheap Rover Defender copy. At that weight I don't see why any one would buy it even though the price isn't bad. And if anyone wanted the paramilitary frills... they could just buy a Pinzie or Mog for less.
Actaully to be designed in 1966, it's pretty good looking.

You can definitely see the Rover influence, and I agree with the Defender 110 comment. Then again, most of the early Japanese utes took their cues as well from the Land Rover and Gelandewagen. I'm with Paul though, gimme a Pinzie or a 416 DoKa 'Mog!
Over 20 years of Isuzu enjoyment...
Yeah, if it wa a bit lighter I wouldn't mind having one actually. Or even the Lada Niva... neat, in a cheap thrills kind of way. Interesting little cars. Saw one up close several years ago in Taiwan. The interior looked like it was straight from a military truck. Diamond plate here and there.Originally posted by Moncha

OMG! A Yugo in uniform! LOL!;pg;
A cheap off road vehicle with a modernish powerplant? That engine has tons of mods readily avail too.
Niva is also available in 4 door (extended weelbase) formfactor. It was the first consumer oriented 4 weel drive car (note my wording here - not SUV but 4 weel drive) available in the USSR to a consumer powered by 1.6 L engine (the most you can get at the time). It was very popular in rural places and for hunting/fishing.
You still can find them today in Canada. They were imported under "Cossack" logo.

AMC Eagles were popular for the same reasons.

Huh! That's the first car I learned to drive growing up, my uncle had one. The only car I liked in the boring more than modest Soviet car lineup.
It was early for its time, and it has been exported to all over the world, often under other brands:
