    Remote Rear Door Release

Purchased the door release from the owner of a VX for sale that had this listed as part of the purchase. Buyer didn't want and so he sold it to me.

It had the Isuzu wire harness and I'll be hooking it up to my alarm fob so it will work with the remote. It wasn't a full Tone (RIP) set up so I needed to figure out some of those extras that made his kit first rate.

    My solution for the "pulley"

    And for the "clip"

When I do auto electrical I always shroud my wires

Final mounting and position looked just like the install manual that is available in another thread on the forum.

I have a different style popper coming and I'll post pics once that's done.

    OEM Tailgate Switch...the final touch

Using a small spade connector since I don't have the OEM pigtail. Just use one for 22 guage wire and crimp a bit to make them tight

Wrap them in electical tape and insert them into the back of the switch. If you find Monchas' diagram the one marked RELAY is the hot lead and the one maked PIN SWITCH is the wire to the solenoid. Do not install this switch with using a relay as the switch will not handle power from a direct source I was told. Note the other spade connector in the photo and make sure that you use some insulated spade connectors near the switch in case you want to take the dash bezel out later. If you don't do this you'll be disconnecting your wires, wherever they may be, and that will be none too much fun...

Wrap the tail of the switch good to keep the wires in place and install on the dash. I put mine next to the alarm light at the top.

    After:

So now it's complete and it's even tied into my compuSTAR alarm remote..WooHoo!

That is SHARP. Did that switch start life as a Defrost switch or a Cruise control one?

You can get the Tailgate button out of Passports or Rodeos for sure, maybe Trooper and SLX as well. So no need to make the button.

More challenging (in my experience) is getting the pigtail for the button. Most eBay sellers only sell you the switch, which is why Earl had to do the manual connections you see above. If you do find one in a yard, make sure to get the switch AND the wires.

Picked it up on e-bay from carismaautosales for $16 shipped. It's from a Trooper and fits our dash perfectly.

They have the fog switches also but will not have any of the pigtails.

Earl, I did this same install using Moncha's write up and I actually went to a junk yard and clipped the pigtail out of a Trooper or Passport (can't remember which) so wiring was a breeze. It looks like you've got it taken care of, and I know getting back in there and re-wiring it with a pigtail would be a PITA, but it's an option down the road (WAY down the road).

Glad it all worked out. Looks great.

    Thanks Mark,

I made sure that I put protected spade connectors on all wires near the switch so that when I need to take the dash bezel off it's easy and I'm not disconnecting wires under the dash...
