    Door Popper Install

Completed the install of the rear door popper with an Autoloc DP-3000. This is different that the one that Tone (RIP) included in his kit. I did not need the pin switch, since I already had one installed for the rear door alarm, and I just didn't like the look of it.

Here is the "popper" that I used

I placed it in the rear cladding in an indentation that already exist for all. I was going to put it in the body panel next to this, but that area is a "black box" and there is no access to get behind that area. Glad I checked before I drilled a big hole in the body panel.

Removed the tail light and the clip to make sure it was completely out of the way:

Remove the plastic from the indentation. I used a 13/16" paddle bit that I had. You can see the body panel area that I was going to use in this photo next to the pin switch.

The back edge of the DP-3000 and the opening are the same size. You'll need to rasp the edges of the opening to allow the popper to settle inside the opening a bit.

The rest is just slide the popper in and secure from the back with the large nut. Perfect room for the extension that comes from the back when the door is closed.

    All finished

    Door closed

    Door Popped

Before the install I had the issue of the door remaining latched after depressing the release and this has solved that issue.

Took me about 30 minutes to get this done.

Great looking install. Can't wait to see it in person this weekend.

Oh, and I hate you people who live down in elevation. OK, maybe hate is a bit strong. Jealous is probably a better word. I haven't been able to wash my VX for MONTHS now due to sub-freezing temperatures and it bugs me to no end to have it dirty. Way to keep that Dragon clean.

Cool. Guess I'd always figured that the force of such a popper would require a metal mounting surface. I'd much rather drill out the plastic of the bumper if it's strong enough. That even seems like a perfect location too. Good thinkin'.

One of these days I might even get around to installing mine.

    latch

How does the door unlatch? It appears that this device just pushes the door open slightly after it's unlatched.

Yes, this is just the popper. There is another thread on the installation of the actual remote solenoid. It's a 15 lb. door acuator that you would use if you shaved the door handles on a hot rod or a tuner.

There are several threads on that subject and the install is pretty easy and you can hook it up to your key fob as well.

There's an electric solenoid that's part of the hatch release system that actually pulls the door latch allowing the door to open. The spring-loaded popper just pushes the door out once the latch is released.
