Decided to do the wood dowel mod before my tail gate knobs broke.
First dowel I bought seemed too skinny. Dub told me what to get, but I think different sizes were mixed up in the bin, and I ended up grabbing a smaller one.
When I went back I happened to see a bag of 1/2" x 1 1/2" dowel pins, with ribs. Eureka! They're perfect! The ribs hold the glue and it's snug in the plastic shaft of the knob.
Pushed it down in far enough to make sure it passed the neck a little, so it should be plenty strong. Thanks Dubster for the guidance!
Can check this mod off my to do list! $2.49 total....and 11 left over. I'll bring them to Moab and give 'em out.
