The ONLY VW bus in my opinion...
As far as the windows along the top...only the "deluxe" models had those.

Mile High..extra bonus...its a 1967 the best year for volkswagen...bus and bug
'67 was just the best year period, guess why
VW buses were called 'mico bus' because they resembled small versions of school buses. The only reason they are connected to hippies is because so many hippies owned them.
Prices on old vw's are outrageous, especially for 21 window buses. That new bus is FUGLY. All those boxes on wheels look like crap to me. I dont see how they ever sell them. I would almost rather have an Aztek (almost).

Here is a photo showing my wife's 1964 21-window Deluxe Samba Bus, alongside my 1967 Deluxe Bus. The "deluxe" referred to the silver trim around the body...NOT the little windows along the top. She's also got the full-length sunroof on hers.
My red one is still cool...but NOTHING like the rarity and cool-factor of the 21-window version.
OEM roof rack, Thule Xpedition 696 rack, Rancho RS9000 shocks, OME 913 coil springs, 3" lift, American Racing Teflon Chambers wheels, Yokohama Geolandar HT/S G051 tires (275/70/16), Energy Suspension greaseable bushings, steel-braided Kevlar-reinforced brake lines, WeatherTech wind deflectors, Malibu 18w driving lights, Plasma SuperWhite 100w headlights, NGK Iridium plugs, K&N drop-in air filter, Optima Red Top, Psychos2 rear-door subwoofer enclosure w/CDT Audio 10" sub, Blaupunkt subwoofer amp, iPod Video 80GB, Kenwood KVT-617 DVD head unit w/7" motorized touch-screen, Kenwood GPS HD navigation module, Kenwood iPod adapter, Kenwood back-up camera, Sirius radio, Flowmaster Extreme Off-Road muffler (black diamond-plate steel) w/ carbon fiber tip, Ford Taurus OEM cup-holder/coin tray (single-DIN/lower bay), personalized license plate "ORBITAL", 3M window tint, debadged, removed rear seat, custom 'radiation symbol' side magnetic signs, VX Concepts front skid plate
Just read that the "Samba" designation refers specifically to the large sunroof. That sunroof, and the small windows up top, were for gazing at the lovely mountains while cruising through the Alps.
For real.

There used to be one of these driving around where I live.
The rear engine cover was adorned like a WWII fighter plane, with "kills".
Last time I spoke to the guy he was up to 9 engines and 4 transmissions.
Bus had over 300K on it.
