cant find a good window repair thread

Could someone put a link here for the best window fix "how to" thread? I now visited about 15 threads and none have a step by step. I know there are parts from an arizona member but Im not interested in a link to that. I tried the "How to" section and there are no links or threads about anything in there.Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Maybe there isn't even a How to Thread about it? Mine has the binding front issue of the glass when I raise them. Thanks for any help

Feel free to shoot me an e-mail when you are working on the window. I have replaced both sides (twice, cuz I used the wrong epoxy the first time). My e-mail shows up on my phone so I should be able to reply pretty quick.

You could also add the one I wrote up for the door panel removal.

Dude, just go with the bungee cord fix. I did it 7 years ago and my windows are still going up and down like new. It's quick, it's cheap, it works, and once it's done, you won't have to deal with the yearly window lubing thing.

There's not really a step-by-step "how to" because it's so simple. Basically, it would be :

    1. remove door panel
    2. attach bungee and experiment with length until window operates the way you want it to
    3. install door panel

There are some good pics in Joshi's thread (the one Ldub posted) showing where to attach the bungee if you want it to be at the back of the window - i.e., under constant tension when the window is up. My windows are up a lot more than they are down, so when I did the fix, I looped the bungee under the front of the window and it tilts the window into proper alignment by lifting the front instead of by pulling down on the back. I figured the bungee would last a lot longer if it were under tension only when the window is down...

I used the small bungees (3.5 - 4mm?) and if I recall correctly their length ended up being 14.5 inches - but really, they're all going to have different elasticity/strength so you'll just have to experiment until you get the proper length for your particular bungees.

The ideal solution might be to have a screen door spring on the back and bungee on the front - that way the window gets fairly equal assisstance throughout its full range of travel and the item under tension most of the time is spring steel rather than rubber, which is more subject to degradation from heat, ozone, etc. I'll experiment with that solution and report back when I get into the door again for broken bungee replacement or blown speaker replacement, whichever occurs first... Or hey - maybe you could be the guinea pig!

But yeah - bottom line - bungees are the quick and easy way to go.
