    Denver Area Mechanic

I ran across this post and wondered if anyone else has been to this mechanic and recommends them.

I got the high idle today and I've always had problems starting the VX after it has warmed up. I've trolled the forums and found a number of different causes, but I'd really like a pro to troubleshoot this stuff before I start replacing each possible problem part.

I can start my VX cold without any issues, idles well at about 1k rpm. After it warms up the idle goes down to 900, stays there while driving. After it is warmed up, the second start always takes two tries and I usually have to pump the gas. Today it took 4-5 times and it would start then die, idle was really rough. Once I did get it started and drove, it ran perfect with great idle and power. It's a lot warmer today in CO, and I'm using 87 octane instead of 91.

I have not used them, but Tynan's VW is the old Isuzu dealership and they have a tech there that is great with the VX...it will be dealer shop rates and so not cheap, but he's supposed to be the best in the area.

The inspected my VX before I bought it and I spoke with him. Really nice guy.

Hope you get it fixed up good as new soon.

PS...I also use seafoam every oil change and have never had any issues with idle. I use it in the vaccum system, but not in the fuel or oil.

I seafoamed in fuel and through the PCV when I did my oil change, Mobil1 as well.

I'll check out Tynan's, thanks. Maybe try to replace a few things in the mean time, EGR is really easy, I did the gasket and cleaned it, but never replaced the whole unit.

At one time I did the seafoam through the PCV, but now I use the brake vaccume line...it seems to get more of the "gunk" out...

I had a similar problem. I pulled out the Idle Air Control and cleaned it really well with sensor-safe cleaner spray. THe IAC has a bunch of different names, though... So you may have problems finding the docs for it. If I can, I'll get you a link. In general, it is a small motor about the size of a lime that is stuck into the throttle body. There was quite a bit of carbon on the nose of it, plus some inside the body. Once I cleaned all that out, I never had a problem again.

For what it is worth, I've taken mine to the place on 104th. It isn't cheap, but they seem to be pretty good. They're a little tough to find -- the isuzu sign is tiny. I think their main sign is now a Suzuki dealership.
