I stumbled by this site:
http://www.hpamotorsport.com/tdijeep.htm
that has created a kit that allows for the mating of a new-age VW TDI into these Jeep wranglers.
I've looked at the list of parts required to mate the VW engine to the Jeep auto transmission and wondered if it were possible to do the same kind of swap in a VX?
http://www.acmeadapters.com/store_engine.php
I've found this other site that sells the kit for the Suzuki Samurai and Toyota 4runner (late 80s) with the 22R transmission. If we use a Toyota -> GM adapter plate, would we be able to use the kit for our transmissions, or is having two adapters too much?
It seems these Jeeps are getting high 40's gas mileage... I've read that the 4L30E can be mated to the Isuzu/NPR 3.9L with help from an external shift controller. Would it be possible to either do a TDI swap and retain the GM transmission, or do a toyota transmission swap as well?
I would love to learn the engineering behind all this if anyone has any ideas/insight
