We are home safe, and are really missing everyone. Had a great time even though the weather wasn't so great. Just wanted to say that it is always a pleasure being with all y'all. We really need to get that VX commune going... We are in the process of uploading all the photos and videos, and will post links shortly. Can't wait for next year, but I hope to see some of you before then.
I know a lot of the forum members look forward to all the pics and stories (carnage and all), but please don't hope for mishaps. When we got back from the trail on Friday, Mike's VX was one of 3 Isuzus that needed major work. There was some minor carnage to others during the week, and Jack had a major whack to his front end and needed to replace his radiator. We go out of our way to have fun without ruining our rides, but sometimes accidents happen. Please don't send negative mojo our way. Thank you.
What happened to Mikes VX?
Mike busted up what we think could be his transfer case trying a ledge on Gold Bar Rim using TOD instead of 4 Low. I tried the same obstacle a few times and promptly gave up. While on the incline, he put it into 4 Low, which may be what resulted in him not being able to move at all, until the front and rear drive shafts were disconnected. Gill towed him into town.
Wow, that sucks. He must have been crushed...his VX is very nice and he just spent a lot of time and $$$$ getting it that way. Was he able to get it fixed and get home? This was his first real wheeling trip...hope it doesn't leave a bad impression for him and he is back in the saddle soon.
Cool vid! Can't wait to see the rest. You can really hear my drive shaft crackling in the video!
Yeah, that really sucked... However, we towed him to the stoop (nobody gets left behind) and he made arrangements for his brother to come to Moab with a trailer to get him home. We have a great group of people, and the convoy back to town with everyone's hazard lights blinking was a proud moment. I for one am going to be passing on a lot of the optional stuff from now on. Even the regular trails are getting harder, and I may be sticking to the slickrock and scenic trails... just going to Moab is great enough. Hanging out with everybody at the stoop & in town is a great time.
Tried uploading a few vids... failed.
Oh, man, you left right before all the bad juju. A way home all worked out for everyone in the end, but yeesh.
MOAB 2011 pictures They're chronological, but I think I'm missing Dome Plateau (sunday). Starts off with Top of The World (Monday, after the aborted Cliff Hanger), Seven Mile Rim (Tuesday), Hell's Revenge (Wednesday), Arches hiking and Tower Arch/Klondike Bluffs (Thursday), Canyonlands/north up Lockhart Basin (don't think we quite made it to Hurrah Pass) (Friday), Kane Creek Canyon (Saturday).
Sorry a lot of silver VX shots... Or white first gen Trooper--it was just Mike (and Rachel) and me that set out on a couple of those trails. And even the group ones, it's hard to take pictures of anyone but the trucks immediately in front, or maybe behind you.
Here are some of them:
